Drew Estate Natural "Root" Review

I got a couple of these from Famous-Smoke for free in the last order I placed. I'd never really taken a close look at these, mostly because the price is a bit outside my budget. I decided I'd light up this smoke. The foot of the cigar is raggedy, on purpose, just the way its designed. It lit well, and burned great. This was a pretty sweet cigar, and it tasted as though it was stuffed with flavored pipe tobacco. To me, this was a good thing. I thought this was a very nice smoke, and felt as though I was smoking a pipe, when in fact it was a cigar. Great sweet flavors, with lots of smoke, a near perfect burn, and a great smell. This cigar is not for everyone, and its not something Id smoke every day, but I'd be willing to bet I'd smoke one a week. I really really enjoyed it.

Re: Drew Estate Natural "Root"

Nice review Scott. I've heard it said that the Root is a mocha capuchinno in a cigar. I usually stay away from flavored cigars, but the craftsmanship on Drew Estate flavors is supposed to be top notch and the tobaccos are also high quality. I may just have to pull the trigger.

Re: Drew Estate Natural "Root"

The Naturals actually do have some pipe tobacco, along with a "unique blend of rare tobaccos". I think this cigar is just ok; no big deal at all. Also, it is pretty harsh on the throat and my friend said the same when I gave him one. I've got to say that the smoke from this cigar smells really good, though. Although I don't usually smoke these, it makes for a cool nightclub stick. I've had a few people compliment and ask what type of cigar it was. It's definitely not a female repellent.

Re: Drew Estate Natural "Root"

I agree with your review of the Natural Root, Scott. For me, the Naturals and the Acids were the first cigars that I tried. I still enjoy the Root and the Deluxe Dirt but as you stated, 'only now and then' . They are a nice break but not an every day smoke.
Maybe the next Natural to try is the Egg ...I have one of these in my humi but have not tried it yet...

Re: Drew Estate Natural "Root"

they are actually not flavored. but it does uses some rare tobaccos like perike from lousiana. i enjoy a lot, almost as much as the dirt torpedo.

the fermentation process of these cigars is different than the one more "traditional" smokes go through. which has an effect on the taste.

Re: Drew Estate Natural "Root"

I tried a "Root" this weekend after my brother-in-law lit up the "Root Deluxe Tubo" he got at Cigarfest and raved about it. The aroma had a really pleasant "coffee house" note which draws your attention. I didn't think the taste indicated that this cigar is "flavored" in any way, though it is different. It was easy to light due to the ragged foot and the construction and burn was good. To me it had a short-medium finish as it left only a mild aftertaste. I smoked it down past the band and I would smoke it again. I place it in the same category with my Java 58s which I smoke as a change of pace. I think it's worth a try. Each pallate is different as we all know, but don't discard the idea of trying this stick thinking it's a "flavored" cigar when it really isn't. If you try it and don't like it, you know what to do, but I think you might be pleasantly surprised.

Re: Drew Estate Natural "Root"

I tend to take these smokes to bbq's that have anti smoking friends at them. I get to smoke a cigar and everyone starts talking about the pipe smell that reminds them of a grandfather or father's pipe. I would prefer to smoke a cuban but nothing worse then the bad taste in your mouth dealing with A$$HOLES who try and ban you from being around them.
The worst is when it is my own cook out.
