Alec Bradley Harvest Selection '97 Review

Just a quick review. Yesterday, I smoked an Alec Bradley Harvest Selection '97 double toro that I picked up from CI in August '08. Price, about $5.

Cut with a Xikar. Pre-light draw was real easy, almost like it was too loosely rolled. Smelled good and looked good. Construction was great and the band was real nice.

Cigar started out mild-medium. Slight nutty and fruity, almost sweet tasting at times. At about the 1/3 point, strength increased to a solid medium. So far, so good.

Last third, cigar took a downturn. Taste just wasn't that great. Kind of bland.

Overall burn was good and even, needed one relight during that last third, perhaps contributing to the poor taste at the end. Draw throughout was loose, but good. Cigar did not overheat.

I would give it a 5 out of 10, but I would be willing to give this cigar another try. I know it's not fair to judge a cigar by only 1 smoke.

Re: Alec Bradley Harvest Selection '97

I have smoked a few robustos and considering you can get them for around $2/stick, I think they're good. They're like a really cheap DPG-type stick to me.

I do wonder how they might be with some age. I think when the harsher notes mellow out these could be pretty interesting. I'm planning to stash at least a couple for a year and see what happens.

So for the price I like them, but for just $1.50 more you can get a Tatuaje Series P...so it really just depends what your budget is.

Thanks for the review.... Doesn't sound like my kind of stick. However, I am not an Alec Bradley fan, with the EXCEPTION of the Tempus!!!!

Re: Alec Bradley Harvest Selection '97

I picked up a box on the Devil site for short money. I have smoked one and I am letting the rest age for a while. I thought that I was a good smoke but with some age on them I think they will be great.

Re: Alec Bradley Harvest Selection '97

My shop ordered a full run of these and only got a box at a time every few months, so we couldn't set up a section for them, which was disappointing. The few I've smoked were alright but not outstanding. Squid® has 6 or 7 down at the bottom of the Squid-A-Dor® that will be revisited later...

Re: Alec Bradley Harvest Selection '97

Definately let these babies sit a few months. I bought a fiver of the robustos about 3 months ago, and they smooth out with the humi time.

At first it was a decent smoke. Nothing spectacular; but for the price, who can complain. I smoked one last week, and they definately improve. Less harsh and it seemed they built up character. Great with glass of scotch to drink.

Thanks for the review. I've been thinking about trying this cigar for a while now since most Alec Bradley cigars are very nice.
