Savinelli Special Selection Review
Savinelli Special Selection 2005
Torpedo 54 x 6 1/2" Wrapper: Ecuador Binder, Filler: Nicaragua Made by Oliva $7.00 ![]() Picked this up at the local B&M today as per the shopkeeper's suggestion. Beautiful shiny, reddish-brown wrapper. Nice toasty aroma, but early flavors were corrupted by a charred bitterness that muddled the profile, and was strangely reminiscent of burnt popcorn. The cigar warmed up after about 20 minutes or so and softened in flavor. Interesting woodsy, slightly sweet cherry finish. About half way through, flavors matured and grew more complex, and included leather and a mild spiciness. The sweeter, cherry notes dissipated. My overall impression is that this is a decent smoke that exhibits promise, but needs some refinement. While I enjoyed the Savinelli, my experience was not as favorable as CA, who rated this cigar a 91, and a top 25 of 2008. Still, this is an enjoyable smoke, and I will likely try one again in the future. My suspicion is that with aging, this cigar will improve nicely.
