Real good smoke! Try to find a bottle of DelaForce-His Eminence's Choice 10 year old Tawny Port. Great port for the price, around 20 bucks a bottle.

I love Port! Perfect for cigars and a relaxing evening. Taylor Fladgate vintage is a great reasonable Port.

If you you want to be unreasonable, try Taylor Fladgate 30 year old Port, and to be totally irrational, try their 40 year. Gets pricey quick, but is it ever good!!!!!!!!!!

Re: oliva V with a side of port

It must be Kismet. I smoked an Oliva V just two days ago in my spa with a glass of Benjamin(Australian Tawny Port). The sheen of the wrapper and the construction of the V cigar is always superb. As to the Port, along with a good bourbon, it' s a cigar parring that is hard to beat. The last few years have really seen a proliferation of new Ports on the market as the distilleries try to outdo each other. The Wine Spectator(the Cigar Afficiando of the wine industry) gave that Benjamin port a 90plus rating. When it first came out it was around $6.95 a bottle, dirt cheap. The reviews skyrocketed the price to $11-12 bucks in no time. If you like a tawny port the Benjam is a good reasonably priced choice.

Re: oliva V with a side of port

Love Port, really prefer Tawny to Ruby, but if quality, either will do. I do not like many of the newer ports on the market recently from places other than Portugal - I have found most of them to be way to syrupy sweet and rushed to the bottle. Nothing beats an older Port obviously, to allow those sweet flavors of caramel, candied almonds, and butterscotch to be rounded off a bit - and I do suggest trying vinatge ports, even if they are not of the 30-40 year variety. I recently finished a Dow's 1986 Vintage and an Osborne 20 year. The 1986 was one of the better ports I have had and the O20Yr was quite nice. Had a 1973 (forgot name) at the Old Lisbon restaurant on SW 22nd (Coral Way) a few months ago in Miami. The best Portuguese food I have ever had including travels to Portugal. The 1973 was like drinking honeysuckle dew over toasted almonds - so smooth, so balanced. It screamed for an Ashton Aged Maduro. To me, Port is the exceptional drink for many cigars, especially rich maddies. I love coffee with a cigar, but Port gets it right. I don't care for Scotch, although I see the logic in the pairing. Now that it is in my head, will have some Dow's 10 year (a bit candied for me and young, but the unopened bottle is calling to me) on Friday evening with an Oliva V. Thanks for the idea.
