Padron Serie 1926 80th Maduro Review

I have these, and I finally got my hands on a couple at the DC HERF2009. Sawnsan gave us a great price of $20 a stick. This smoke was has been on my wish list for a while. This cigars reputation caused me to have expectations of totally awesome experience.

Country: Nicaragua
Length/Ring: 6.75 x 54
Shape: Perfecto
Wrapper: Maduro
Strength: Full

I love perfectos The Maduro wrapper, smooth, firm oily. I used my double guillotine to get a straight cut as usual. The construction was box press perfection. Tight but a beutiful draw.

I lit my cigar with anticipation, I had my first taste revealing an toasty yet creamy flavor. The burn was even but ash was was strange. As I progressed into the first portion, I could taste the complexity of this wonderful cigar start getting a cocoa taste in the background. A firm deep smoke with strong flavor.

As I entered the second third, I tasted a chocolate flavor with hints of a leather undertone yet kind of sweet. The burn was perfect and the ash would not let go. Even though it started to split then it resembled an alligator or a dragon head.

Entering the last third, the ash finally fell off. I started getting hints of coffee briefly still tasting cocoa and a hint of leather. The second ash held almost till the end. It was almost three inches before falling off in my hand. I continued, and couldn't put it down. It kept getting better, and fished with a bang and burnt fingers.

I highly recommend you get your hands on one of these cigars. A genuine treat from start to finish. Oh! and about my expectations? They were exceeded. A great experience for 90 minutes.

Great review. Was lucky enough to pick up a box of these last year. They where great when I got them. Even better when I tried my second one with a year of age! Buy the way, that was a fantastic price you picked up that little baby for!

re: Padron Serie 1926 80th Maduro Review

Great review and everything goes better with pics!

My issue here is really price. Even at $20 it raises an eyebrow, but at thirty, I take a sterner look. I've smoked my weight in cubanos from about every vintage and Im not really sure I've ever smoked a thirty dollar cigar. Not to say that the Padron 80th isn't a really good smoke, it is. But, is there nothing out there, which delivers these flavors, in as gratuitous a way as this stick? Fact is, there are several.

I think most of us have been guility of "justifying" prices we pay for cigars. Just like a lot of things, the more we pay for seared ahi, the better we think it tastes. The more we pay for a bottle of Chateau Rothschild XXXX, the better we think it tastes.

Does it really taste better?

Kudos to Andy, for not going over-the-top on this review. I take from his piece that it's a good smoke, with many virtues and worth a try. He liked it and he makes that clear, but not imparative. Well done.

I have 5 of these in my box and, like everything else, they will be smoked in rotation. I didn't pay for them.

Very nice review. Padron's 40'ths are my favorite top end cigar. I should try an 80th and compare.
