This is my first review from a newbie cigar smoker. I picked this up about three weeks ago and today just felt like a good day to smoke, little did I know horror was around the corner. I go outside sit on the porch and take in this nice day. I smell the foot and all seems alright, I'm greeted with hints of spice. The wrapper is excellent with a nice oily sheen to it. I thought I was up for a pleasurable experience and suprisingly I was.
"Off With It's Head and Burn the Witch" Now I'm enjoying it there is a good spicy taste with little variation for the first two thirds. I was pacing myself taking it real nice and slow and hoping for a fantastic third. Here I am coming into the final third and then.. BAM! I'm hit hard with the taste of spicy ammonia! What? No! EGH! I want to barf and then I'm hit with memories of my mother putting soap in my mouth for cursing. I stand up angered and enraged I take this cigar and throw it down spit on it and trample it to death. Moral of the story, there is no moral of the story. |

re: Punch Pita Maduro Review
If you have an ammonia taste you need to blow back on the cigar while trying to light it. If you still have that flavor after doing so then you know its the cigar and not just an ammonia build up. I would say give it another shot.

re: Punch Pita Maduro Review
I agree with Cypress. Its starting to become a habit for me to blow the smoke out thats built up inside my cigar. Sometimes I don't even realize I'm doing it until my girlfriend keeps asking me why I do. It's helped keep the harshness taste out for me. I seem to smoke my cigars a little faster than a normal person would.
I definately would give this cigar another chance once you've had a taste at other cigars. I had the same problem with a RyJ when I was a n00b. I tried one a few weeks ago, and I am mad at myself for not giving it another chance earlier! I guess the moral of the story is, don't be so quick to judge. Give them a second chance! You won't regret it...usually. |

re: Punch Pita Maduro Review
Interesting review. The Punch Pita has been a mainstay smoke for me for years and I've never had a bad one or one that was even slightly off.
That doesn't mean an occasional bad cigar doesn't get made, just that I've never had a bad Punch. I say try another one from a different source if possible. |

re: Punch Pita Maduro Review
That's too bad - never had a problem with a Punch myself. Soumds like the cigar was a little too young and still had an abundance of ammonia which built up. I would definitely try another but make sure it's from a different box and maybe let it sit for a while longer.
