Romeo Y Julieta Habana Reserve churchill Review

Name: Romeo Y Julieta Habana Reserve

Manufacture: Romeo y Julieta

Size: Churchill 7x54

Filler: Nicaragua and Honduras

Wrapper: Corojo (Nicaragua)

Drink: Cranberry Juice

Pre-light Aroma: Cut with my Cuban Crafters double guillotine. It cut beautifully. The foot was very aromatic, but I could not honestly pin down what I was smelling. I did gets hints of wood and leather, but those weren't the foremost scents. The pre-light draw gave me a better clue as I was getting tastes of coffee, cocoa, and caramel.

Draw: The pre-light showed that the draw was going to be close to perfect. Not too loose, not too tight. The burn, really, was horrible. Up to an inch difference at some points. I touched it up about 3 times. Toward the final third it did catch up to itself, but then toward the end the draw became much looser and it did not finish evenly. A shame, really.

Smoking notes: This is a cigar that I have had since some time in December, I had been looking forward to it, and was holding off until I felt that the time was right. That would be today. Needed something to perk myself up. After the pre-light and through the burn issues, I was most amazed by the fact that the overwhelming flavor that I got through most of the cigar was bitter like coffee. It wasn't bad, it wasn't good. There was no real spiciness that was consistent--bursts here and there. The flavor really came in toward the end of the second third and the beginning of the end when the hints of leather began to come through with the cocoa. For mild-medium bodied I would say that this cigar was kinda ho-hum, but on the good side of ho-hum. The flavor that I was detecting, however, made the flavor of my cranberry juice pop out... It was amazing.

This stick proved, once again, that I am not a fan of churchills. Too much of a good thing, and toward the end taste of ash pokes through more than I would like. But a couple moments of ash did lead me to be able to pull other flavors out.

The scent of the smoke was leathery and a little bit of spice/grass with some scents of hot cocoa. It was a pleasant aroma.

After taste was like caramel hot chocolate, once again, very pleasant.

Overall impression: The Romeo y Julieta Habana Reserve is a beautiful cigar, no doubt about it. The wrapper had some veins in it, but they weren't obscene. It cut very cleanly. This is a cigar that I would go back to for a daily smoke without feeling bad--I would just go for a smaller size. Churchill is just too much for this stick. I would recommend this for consideration, especially if one is newer to smoking cigars.

Final Grade: B-

I enjoyed it well enough... The churchill size is just too much.

4 vitolas special for $7.95 s&h right now.
Sound kind of mild/bland, but I will try them at this price.

Re: Romeo Y Julieta Habana Reserve churchill Review

I used to smoke a lot of these as a daily smoker, but lately I have been very disappointed in the flavors of this cigar. Everything about this cigar was great, but either my tastes have changed or the cigar seems a bit more burnt tasting and bitter.
I have a few left, and when finished, I think a will buy a five pack of this in a smaller size(maybee corona if offered), and try them.

Much regards Jerry

Re: Romeo Y Julieta Habana Reserve churchill Review

Thx Jerry. I too prefer the corona vitola. Alas, the special offer is only dumping their large rg pipes. Naturally!
Anyway, at $2 per, I can either smoke em myself if decent, or give them away as gifts.
