Carlos Toraņo Casa Toraņo Maduro Toro Review

Picked this up at my local B&M tonight to try it out. Toro size, 6.2 x 50, nice dark wrapper, good construction. I believe the robusto of this blend is #17 in CA's ratings for 2008, if you put any stock in that stuff.

From the get-go draw was pretty tight and stayed that way throughout. From what I gather the regular Casa Toraņo blend is pretty mild and this was no exception. The very dark maduro wrapper deceived me into expecting a bit of kick but it never happened. Very mild, smooth smoke with that great maduro sweetness underlying. At times I got the slightest hint of a glue-y aftertaste but it never came through strong enough for me to exactly put my finger on it. Perhaps it was an element of the sweetness. Unlike some of my other favorite maduros, this stick had me imagining I was smoking something incredibly mild, like a Montesino or something, except with the heavy, sticky sweet of a maduro wrapper tacked on to the aftertaste. An interesting experience and definitely a pleasing cigar, although I would subtract points for the draw issues. A nice fat stick like this shouldn't have to be sucked on so damn hard to get smoke through it!

3.5/5. Would definitely smoke again but wouldn't be my first go-to choice.

I wonder what humidity it was kept at? I've found maduros hold moisture and that might have been part of your draw problems. I think if you dry boxed it for a day or so you would have had better success. These are one of the first box purchases I made and really enjoyed them. I have a few Torpedos left, I might fire one up in the next day or two. Good review!

Glad to see reviews for this coming in now. I really like the Casa Torano house blend, and I have high hopes for this one. Hope its better than the one you had-- I hope to smoke the robusto this week. Thanks.

I bought a box of these right when they came out. Your review is right on. To me, they taste just like the naturals with the maduro sweetness. Thanks for the review!

This B&M has a fancy walk-in that is quite well humidified, but not to the point of being overly so. That being said, you'll never find a dry stick in there.

You may have a good point here...the stick was at the high end of desirable humidity, might have been a bit too saturated to get the best draw out of.
