Ashton VSG Enchantment review

Cigar: Ashton VSG
Size: Enchanment (perfecto) 4 3/8 x 60
Wrapper: Ecuadorian Sun Grown
Binder: Dominican
Filler: Dominican
Origin: Dominican Republic
Price $12.50

Ok so first of all I over paid for this cigar by a couple dollars. I bought it at a Cigar Bar I was at last night. My reg local B&M I go to sells them for $10.50. I bought it last night just to support the place, because I brought in my own cigars to smoke.

The cigar was firm and well made. It is a perfecto shaped like a Short Story but with the ring gauge making it all the way to 60. The wrapper was botchy, but thats nothing new with the VSG wrapper, its not a great looking wrapper. I cut the cap with my Woff V-Cutter, it was windy and sunny at the time of lighting this "nipple tip" cigar. So it wasn't a perfect light.

1st third.
The cigar starts out with a little bit of spicy and earthyness. The amount of smoke is good and the draw is good. It has a light grey ash and the burn is off just a little, but I think that is because of the light, so its my fault. The spice seems more of an earthy type thing and not a pepper spice. The ash holds on good thru out the 1st third of the cigar. It seem to be just med in flavor and body at this point.

2nd third.
The flavor is picking up as is the spice a litte. I am getting the spice on my palate and my tongue. It has a complex earthy, woody, nutty flavor to it. The burn has some jagged spikes to it. This could be from the fact that it is a sun grown wrapper, so thicker then most. Or it could be from the humidor I bought it out of, didn't seem to be up to snuff. The ash held on great till I got to the end of this third. I was surprised because it was a windy day and I was moving the cigar around a lot. From hand to hand and to ashtray for pictures. The flavor picked up in this third and so did the body, as it was going from med to med/full. The burn line also shapped up before the last third and never had a problem with it again.

Last third.
For the first half of the cigar the finish was short and uneventful. Since about the halfway point on the finish has really picked up in flavor and length, very nice. Just as I was getting into this part of the cigar the ash fell off, but from then till it was nubbed the ash never fell again. The flavor just keep getting better and more complex with flavor changes as I smoked it. It also turned into a full body cigar and I could feel it. This cigar finished great as I nubbed it.

Thoughts.
The last few VSGs I have smoked just didn't give me enough flavor. But I will add that these where all aged smokes and not the Enchantment size. The VSG Enchanment used to be my number one cigar, because of the flavor profile and the power it has. I was not disapointed at all with this cigar. It was very good and hit me just right. I would give it a 8.5 to 9 out of 10.
