Troya Classico (By Pepin) Review

Hung out at the cigar shop most of the day Saturday. Decided to grab a Troya Classico, amongst some others which I will do a review on in a day or two. I was very skeptical at first, because I smoked a Troya X-tra Fuerte a couple of weeks ago and it was garbage. There is one BIG difference though.... The Classico is blended by THE MAN, Pepin.

Wrapper: Oscuro Corojo (Nicaraguan)
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Nicaraguan
Size: 7 X 50
Draw: Perfect
Burn: Great
Construction: Good

This cigar is medium - full-bodied. Flavor: The typical black pepper found in most of Pepin's blends along with a touch of vanilla cream. Excellent aroma; makes you want to take a bite out of the cigar!

Tastes very similar My Father, another awesome Pepin-blended cigar. The are a little pricey, so if you want to experience the flavor of a My Father without having to pay the My Father Price, grab a Troya Classico.

If you are a Pepin whore like myself, I encourage you to try the Classico.

Re: Troya Classico Review

I got good news and bad news for y ou...

The good news is that these are great smokes.

The bad news is that they don't make them anymore. If you find a source, they'll likely drop the price to dirt cheap just to get rid of them.

Yeah they are already gone at my local B&M, good smoke. Give the Old Henry a try from Holts. Its a Pepin blend and its good and strong!

The brand was owned by Lignum II out of San Leandro, CA. It had been in existence for about 13 years before gaining popularity with Pepin's blend(s). It was actually originally manufactured by Henke Kelner, believe it or not. Pepin only got involved in the brand about 3 years ago but the company couldn't give the brand the legs that other Pepin brands had.

Lignum was then purchased by Imperial Tobacco last year (Altadis' parent company) for a nice chunk of change. They acquired Rave cigarettes and a few cigar brands. Troya was included. Being a Cuban brand, it's a valuable asset for Altadis when the embargo gets lifted but I suppose they chose to close it out and will probably re-introduce it post-embargo.
