Padron 3000 Maduro Review

No pics, didn't have the camera with me although I wish I did.

Must have been sitting forgotten in the humidor at my local B&M for a long time. Wrapper shows signs of aging...has that appearance of being a little looser and rustic, with a nice dusting of plume specks on it. Oh I was excited.

Prelight draw was fine and gave me a slight taste of the chewy chocolateyness I love about a good Padron maduro.

Lighting up did not disappoint...this baby was smooth with the flavors a bit more subdued than some younger ones I have at home, yet the underlying sweetness was a bit more refined and distinguishable. You could really pinpoint it when going over the smoke in the mouth.

Burn was slow and even and the ash was amazing. Solid white, pure as the driven snow. I was really pleased with the burn on this thing...I don't think I've ever had as shockingly stark a white ash on a cigar before. It was certainly interesting and pleasing.

Smoke didn't last long enough but I was definitely pleased. However long it was sitting there mellowed out the flavors I already love and made them a little smoother and more easygoing. You kind of had to work more to discern the typical Padron flavor profile, but sitting there in an overstuffed chair on a Friday night just puffing away, it was nothing but a pleasure.

Nice, love these. How much age do you think it had on it? I hear people say that Padrons age really well, but I would hate to have them go bland on me.

Judging but how much business this B&M gets, and what the clientele goes through versus what they let sit, I'd say it had maybe two years, tops on it. The poor Padrons are a neglected little lot in a corner of the humidor!

Speaking of which, I know a B&M on the other side of town that has an older box of PAM 64s that no one ever touches...those have got to have close to two years on em by now. Hmmm, I think I've found my next stick!

Just curious, how long have you been smoking cigars for? I find this statement not only boastful, but incorrect. Are you saying you are willing to bet that you can tell apart newly released Padrons from those, say, that were released in mid 90s? I still have some from mid 90s and yet I cannot tell the difference (save for bands on Annis, of course).

Amazing...

I've got box of 3000 maddies I'm aging. Only 1.5 years or so to go....

It is pretty difficult not smoking 'em.

Wow, have a rough day or something? There's no need to attack him on that point, and if you are going to, at least keep it to what he said. You are way overselling what he said.

Thanks for the review, Frinkiak. I enjoyed it.

No, not a bad day, simply pointing out a bad (and poorly researched) observation that would lead others to "learn" and then spread same BS as gospel. I'd like to see one well aged cigar where appearance seems "loose". To the contrary, actually. Unless one ages them in 100% humidity, my apology, then.

But you may be right, I have no idea from my roughly 20 years of smoking (and aging) cigars. Back in the day when I took up this hobby I was glad I could actually learn from those who knew things, these days every beginner smoker seems to know everything there is to know about cigars in about 2 weeks flat, some even faster.

Like I said, just curious what the poster's experience is with aging cigars. I am looking at a box that is 35 years old now, and well, I still can't tell by appearance alone.

Re: Padron 3000 Maduro Review

Padrons have a reputation for being very rough and "rustic" looking to begin with.

Speaking from experience, my dear fellow, this particular Padron wrapper was speckled and a bit rugged, compare with the "tighter" appearance of fresh boxes of Padrons in my own humi.

So yes, this one looked patently different from those that came out of the "new" boxes I've bought most recently. Could be a coincidence, design "flaw," who knows. Who cares. On another note, there are countless times where you'll walk in a humi and see sticks that can only be described as "rugged" and look what a poor layman like me would only describe as "looks like it's a bit loosely wrapped" compared to a nice, tight stick off the factory floor. Toothy wrapper, plumey wrapper, who knows...visually makes the whole thing look less tightly wound than a flawless wrapper.

Now if you all will excuse me, I must go back to lashing out at anonymous people on the internet.

For what it's worth, I've gotten a lot of variation in padron wrappers' texture and color.

Me too...though it has yet to detract from my enjoyment of them!

I can't begin to tell you how impressed I am with your clearly superior knowledge, but I'm obviously not as impressed as you are. Perhaps instead of throwing it around and implying the OP is a dope, you could have asked him what he meant by his observation and started a civil conversation that we could all enjoy and learn from.
