La Flor Dominicana Grand Maduro Cabinet #4 Review

I had the chance to enjoy this cigar on my porch yesterday, while watching the second half of Das Boot on my laptop (phenomenal movie btw) and enjoying a few bud heavies.

I believe the size I had was the #4, although that is guessing from the cameroon line sizes, I cannot seem to find much info on these smokes online. It is what I would call a "large toro" - a little bigger on the ring gauge side. Sorry for having no pictures, I will try to remember to do that next time I write a review. It has been resting in the humi for a month and a half.

The cigars appearance is very attractive. Like their Cameroon Cabinet line (which I love), this cigar is unbanded. Rather than being uniform in color, the wrapper is "splotched" with darker and lighter areas, and it is slightly toothy. I love the look. It is fairly firm to the touch.

Smelling the foot, my nostrils are not filled with spicy tobacco aroma that makes me sneeze, but are instead greeted with a mellow, raisiny aroma. Same flavor is apparent on a pre-light draw.

Lighting it up, I was surprised how smooth it was. To my pallete, I got the sort of rich raisiny flavor at the beginning, with a hint of spice (really just a very subtle hint). About an inch into the smoke, the flavor profile became more leathery to my tongue, and stayed consistently leathery and rich, with the flavors ramping up towards the end of the cigar as resin built up.

At no point would I say this was a "power maduro" it was more sweet and mellow. The airborn smoke had a very nice aroma.

The only problem I had with this smoke was that throughout the entire cigar, it had a slight tunneling problem, but nothing a touch up every 15 mins couldn't take care of. For what it's worth, it did tunnel very evenly, and did not become lopsided. Hopefully it was just this particular smoke.

All in all, I enjoyed this cigar thoroughly, and while I would not buy a whole cabinet, I will certainly buy a selection of singles in different vitolas at some point.

One of my favorites and your review is right on. They come in cabinets of 50. Since they are hard to find I bought out the last 23 from a local store. Just letting them sit and mellow out some more.

Nice review. That's a great cigar. One of their less potent cigars, but loads of flavor.

You're dead on about this stick. One of the users here put me onto LFD, and I have loved them ever since. Never had a bad one. My main problem is having enough money to keep them around.

Thanks for the review. I'm going to look for these a little more now as I can't remember seeing any of the maduros.

I have only seen them at this one B&M (Bethesda Tobacco), and not at all online. And that B&M is the only LFD sponsored cigar lounge in the US, so I can see why they'd have it.

On a side note, I do remember hearing from the guy there that the torpedo was the most popular size with their regulars, so I might try that next.

Yeah I've been thinking of buying some (not that many) along with cameroon cabs to age a little (if I can manage not to smoke them).
