RP Vintage 1999 Connecticut Petit Corona Review

Just finished this RP and wasn't overly impressed with the flavour.

Construction was good, no wrapper flaws, used a punch and draw was excellent. Flavour was nutty and very mild (possibly the mildest I've smoked yet) and stayed consistent thoughout the burn. The burn was even and the ash somewhat loose. I didn't experience any aftertaste, which is something I'm concerned with.

Overall, it was a good quality smoke, but I would have liked to see a little more flavour like the Nub 354 Connecticut I just reviewed. I may keep a couple of these in the humi in the future, but I don't think it's a candidate for a box buy. I've got a Vintage 1990 in the humi now, so maybe that will produce a better taste when it gets smoked.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this RP?

The 90 and 92 are great smokes. Never had a 99. Haven't heard to much about them. Overall Rocky Patel produces quality cigars; the edge, indian tabac, vintage, connecticut, decade and a few others.

Never had it.

Not a big RP fan. If you are looking for more flavor, try the Edge Corojo and the ITC. Those are tasty. Along with the Old World Reserve Corojo....

Out of the RP line I've enjoyed the Vintage 92 the most! Thanks for the review James.

I've heard a few people now say they liked the '92, so I'll have to pick some up the next time I'm out. Looking forward to the 90 though, might let it age for a bit first. I'm finding it hard to let sticks sit...too tempting to smoke them right away!

It was the first RP I smoked and I thought it was awesome until I began smoking other sticks. I had one not long ago and it was too mild and flavorless for me. You will enjoy the 1990 much more (probably) but then again, the cigars are worlds apart.

Thanks for the review. The only way to let sticks age is to buy more than you smoke. So start buying! As for the Vintage '90 and '92, I like both but prefer the '92. IMO, these are great fresh. A few months in the humi should do the trick.

The Vintage '99 has been on my wishlist for awhile, ever since I've found the love for Rocky Patel cigars. I really only found one I don't like, and that was the REO. But I'll eventually give another one a try in a few months. Anyway, nice review! Will be looking for some in my local shop soon.

I dislike most RP cigars, which made for some interesting conversation with Nish at one of their events. The 99 Connecticut is the exception for me, I find it an enjoyable morning smoke with coffee.
I rarely pick one up, however, as there are a lot of other smokes I prefer in the am.

A morning smoke makes sense as it is a mild one...good call!

On another note:

OMG!! Went to the B&M to grab some sticks and saw that the owner brought in a box of RP Vintage 1990 Churchills. The down side was the price...are you ready?....$19.99ea!!!!! Holy crap!!

It's too bad because he rarely gets in brands that are readily available in the states, and when he finally does, the price is rediculous. He also brought in some CAO Americans, but they're $12.99. Again, too much money.

Makes me want to open my own shop in town and price things properly. There's no way he's being charged that much to bring them into the store...and if he is, he'd better switch suppliers!

I think an Oliva Serie G Belicoso...been looking forward to it and hope I like it because the price is right! My taboo order should arrive monday or tuesday (10 stick sampler) so I might dive into one of those too. Its nice having choices now that I'm stocking up!
