JR ALT Padron 1964 MONARCA Review

I love Padron, they are my go to brand. I saw JR had an Alternative to the 1964 for around $30.00 so I decided to pick up a bundle. They sat in my humi for about 3 months.

Today was the day I was going to finally try one out. I was very disappointed.

The look and feel of the cigar was very good. The tobacco tasted good when I first put it my mouth before lighting, but the draw was horrible. It was a workout trying to get smoke.

The bummer was I went to downtown Coeur d Alene to stroll around the lake and enjoy this cigar, so I didn't bring another one with me. I did "smoke" this the best I could, but there was no real flavor to it, except basic tobacco, that I could tell.

Oh well, maybe the next one I try will be better.

On a side note, when I went to the lake, there was a real big "Tea Party" rally going on. People must be getting real angry over what's happening in this once great country.

I know what you mean, I've tried different ones hoping to come somewhat close at a cheaper price. Padrons are getting up there in price. I like the Oliva brand for a good, less expensive cigar.

Thank you, I wasn't expecting a Padron for a buck. I was hoping for a halfway descent cigar for an affordable price....and I agree Oliva is very comparable...or better yet stands on it's own. They make many quality sticks IMOP.

Re: JR ALT Padron 1964 MONARCA Review

I have read that these are a better buy for Padron Alt's

https://www.tntcigar.com/store/index.php?cPath=36_305

But getting up there in price for an Alt.

But getting up there in price for an Alt.

That's a ridiculous price for a bundled house brand. Especially at today's prices, when a case of 60 Omar Ortez Originals goes for $100 on CBID or when Cigars Direct is offering a box of AF Double Chateau Sun Growns for less than $70.

(and, no, I don't work for CI or CigarsDirect... )

Re: JR ALT Padron 1964 MONARCA Review

but if they are close as they say to a Padron Anniv for $60, could be worth it since real Anniv's are a lot of dough. I have no experience with the ALT's on that site, so I can't say it would be worth it or not.

I'm with you there.

Trying to knock off a Padron isn't a smart move.

Re: JR ALT Padron 1964 MONARCA Review

I did a post a few months ago on this topic as far as what others thought of the "Alternatives" and how close they thought they were to the real cigar. Out of every response I got the same thing was said over and over,,,you can't beat the original and the alternatives just don't match what they say. I had previously bought a bundle and they didn't even live up to any part of being an alternative.

Re: JR ALT Padron 1964 MONARCA Review

Wow...I was actually looking into buying a JR alt to Cubans or something. I know I was not going to get anywhere near the real thing. I was just hoping for what Thumbs was hoping for...I good cigar at a low price. A cigar I can enjoy when I dont have a lot of time and not going to pay attention to it too much.
