El Rey Del Mundo Robusto review

This is one of my all-time favorites. Smoked one from a sampler many years ago and instantly fell in love. This was before the trend toward more full bodied cigars and I had been smoking milder stogies from the Dominican. That ERDM was a real treat, full of flavor, smooth and perfectly constructed. I immediately added them to my rotation.

Smoked one this afternoon and I thought I'd review it here for fun.

The wrapper on this had a little bit of an oily look and there was a tiny hint of bloom starting --- the box has a date July 2007 stamped on it. Perfect construction, no viens or soft spots, nice even color on the wrapper. Clipped it and the draw was just a tad tight, but no problem. I like a looser draw generally. These guys always burn so razor straight it's amazing. This one was no exception. The body was medium. The taste starts out with a hint of cocao and has a deep aspect to it that reminds me somehow of walnuts. It's a rich, full taste that is smooth and doesn't overwhelm your palate. It continues like that for the first half, nutty dark goodness ,then the taste fills out with a hint of spice and some oaky and herbal notes. Ash held on a little past half way, then I knocked it off by accident.

While this is not the most complex cigar, it is definitely full of good flavor. Dark and rich.

For the price this is quite possibly my favorite; and regardless of price this is on my short list of must-haves. One of the few non-cubans I have a real reverance for. [Ok, that last might be overdoing it a little] Top 5 for sure.

The ERDM Robusto Oscuro is one of the sticks you will always find in my humidor. I know it is silly but I like the tissue wrapping. More than that it seems to never disappoint. Good flavor, great construction and good looking presentation all under $4 ... what is not to like.

Nice review. I have a dozen Robustos left in the humi from 2006. Great cigar.

Re: El Rey Del Mundo Robusto review

Arnie, thanks for the review.

I've not had one yet, but do happen to have one that's been resting for a few months. Well, it's time to break it out and put some fire to her.
