Padilla 1968 Robusto Review (Pics)

This one had been sitting in my humidor for a month or two and I felt like trying something new tonight as I sat down to read for CrimLaw. Construction is good, the wrapper is pretty attractive. I am also a sucker for those dual-bands with the code number on them...nice touch.
Has a great prelight aroma to it, very thick and heavy, a really potent and distinct aroma to it. I could sit and inhale the smell for quite a while...but it's time to smoke! This is building my hopes up...

Initial notes of crisp tobacco flavor and woodiness. For as heavy as it smelled before lighting, I am very pleased by how light and unobtrusive the flavor is starting out. Not a lot of flavor nuance but that tasty tobacco flavor keeps hitting the roof of my mouth and then disappearing...not heavy and doesn't linger, makes you want to keep drawing!

Midway through I'm having minor burn problems which I correct a few times. She starts to canoe on me but I touch it up and continue smoking. Tons of smoke from this cigar, draw is good and I never have to really work at it. Flavor intensifies as I go on but doesn't really develop or change...just heavier, heartier notes with harsher wood. For as surprisingly subdued, crisp, and tasty as the first half was, the second half ends pretty harsh.

Overall I liked it. Didn't get any complex flavors or much development but the first portion was delicious, classic tobacco flavor and not too harsh as full-flavored "raw tobacco" taste can sometimes be. For the price I would kind of hope for more dynamic development as the smoke went on, but as this was just a single it was okay.

I wouldn't say I was "disappointed," it just wasn't all that. But to each their own...one man's "meh" cigar is the next man's go-to. I'll be the last to criticize what anyone else likes!

Nice review, I enjoy the Hybrid but have not yet tried this one, based on the review, I am not running out to the B & M to get one either.

Nice review, I think the 1968 is good but not a great cigar. Now the 1932 on the other habd is a great smoke!
