Re: Baby Casa Magna

Just goes to show that sometimes good things do indeed come in small packages!!! I've enjoyed quite a few smokes in small sizes that deliver a full sized smoke and have quite a few on hand for when I want a short smoke.

I can't say that I've tried these babies though. Never even saw one till this post. Very nice pic, btw. I have to admit to not trying any of the Casa Magna line. Wish I had a neighborhood B&M, but fact is I'm not very near one. I've been wanting to try the robusto and see what all the hype is. I did get into a shop today but they didn't have any. One of these days I'll find some.

Re: Baby Casa Magna

Cigars Direct has something called Casa Magna Pikitos. It is 4.75 by 42 rg and sells for 29.95 for a 5 pack. Is this the same thing you reviewed? If so, pretty steep price. The single robusto at Cigars Direct sells for 11.95. Methinks pretty outrageous. A bit of price gouging going on, but I thought I'd post it here for someone who thinks they must have it. As to me, I think I'll pass

Yes, I should have called it by name in the review. Sorry for the ommission.

Those prices are absolutely outrageous. I think I paid just under $4 for the two I bought. Haven't been back to that shop since and my other B&M who carries them in my area charges a little more and adds the state tobacco tax ON TOP of their price.

These are still, IMO, the best of the Casa Magna and the only vitola I will still buy.

Hey Herf - I found some of these in New Hampshire. They were the belicoso size an I picked up a couple for $6.00 apiece. I'm a little anxious to try one but but stowed em in my travel humi for the time being. I want to lay em em to rest in my humi for a bit before sampling them. Not sure if I can wait that long, but make the attempt to wait. Still looking for the small ones, but dang, hard to find any of any size.

Re: Baby Casa Magna

I smoked one of those Casa Magna belicosos this past week while on a backpacking trip. I have to say I was a bit disappointed. It was an ok smoke until the end, but I detected a slight ammonia flavor at the end. I suspect that these were rushed out of production just to get them into the market. It's really a shame they would do that. I will save the other and maybe buy a box or two and hang onto them for awhile, if I can find them. I think they have potential, but not sure that they will ever be number one for me. I'm still in search of the smaller ones, too, especially since I have an empty space in my humi. I just got rid of the Macanudo Maduro Ascots I had. Have you gotten any that are still a bit green?

Re: Baby Casa Magna

Also re: OP's desire to find a smoke that doesn't take 1-2 hours of time invested, when I want a short smoke I gravitate to the coronas as well, but I've found that I smoke them more slowly because of smaller RG. I'm always surprised by how long a corona or petit corona can take to smoke sometimes!

These DO look good, dunno if I could find any, though. There's been a Casa Magna drought at my B&M ever since they hit the market. I still have one of the original-release robustos in my humi that I haven't touched yet, can't bring myself to smoke it because I won't find another one at the store yet.

As for being a quick smoke... nope. It took me just over an hour.
Hiya Herf - I keep returning to your original post here, not just for the baby Casa Magna. It's that sweet looking La Flor Dominicana in the corner there. I've never had one of those. Have ya tried that sucker yet? Sure looks like a mouth watering gem to me. How long have you had it resting there? If it were me I'd be tempted to toast it up.

I'm back to Taxachusetts again for a couple days. Every time I drive back here I try to go a different way, in search of those elusive baby magnas. Still no luck. I did pick up a couple belicoso's awhile back. First one was green and nothing what I expected. Ammonia taste really turns me off. Anyhow, I managed to pick up a couple of Oliva O's and I splurged on a tin of small Cohiba pequenos. Dang, 27 bucks!!! Getting pricey. Never tried the O's but I love the V's and G's. I guess you could say this is the year I've been trying a lot of gars I've never had before.

I stopped by the new house to see how it's progressing. They've just finished the plumbing and cabinets and I wanted to check out my smoking room. It's coming along pretty nicely. I was sitting outside on my bike smoking a Partagas Black Label Pronto when a cop drove in. Apparently some neighbor heard me pull in on my bike and called the cops on me, thinking I was a vandal. Nice to know I'm in a good area, anyway. The cop smelled my Parta and asked me what I was smoking. Turns out he's a cigar smoker too. Sensing an opportunity to make an easy in with the local law I almost reluctantly pulled out my tin of Cohibas and offered him one. His eyes lit up and he almost hesitantly reached for one and put it in his pocket. I told him go ahead and light it up, isn't it about time for a break? Man, this is funny, but he looked all around to see if anyone was watching (no neighbors visible from the house) and then lit up. Just to make it legit I offered him some coffee from my thermos and said "There now, it's officially break time, but I'm afraid I don't have any donuts to offer you."

We got to talking and it turns out he's into hunting like I am and we're planning to do a little hunting together this fall. Kinda hard to imagine me making a friend of the cops. Usually they look at me with suspicion, me generally being a long haired biker and all. Well, I'm starting to ramble here. Come to think of it, I guess I started doing that when I first started typing. LOL. Too much time on my hands I guess. Gotta get out and get to the errands I came here for.

I keep several LFD Chisels in inventory. That one got smoked and was delicious; one of my top 5 NC's.

As for the Casa's, they have now become a "stay away" for me. The original release was underwhelming in all but the Pikito vitola and subsequent releases have simply ranged from slightly suck, to completely suck.
