Baby Casa Magna

Well... I went into my favorite B&M yesterday so see what would find it's way into my caddy and started thinking, "I need something that isn't a two hour investment." Most of what I have and like are pretty generous vitolas. I like about a 52-54 rg and at least 5+ inches of length. Trouble is, I don't seem to get good flavor delivery from most coronas and smaller. I like the RP Missles and the little Illusione, but most little fellers leave me flat.

As I walked past all things Casa Magna, this little petit corona caught my eye. Cute lil' thing it is too. I rather like the Casa Magnas, but it's certainly short of love. I figured at just over $4, it would be a nice short smoke with decent flavor.

Boy, was I wrong!

Right from the light, this thing was ready to do battle. Big flavors started to emerge and never quit. At about 3/4" in, roasted coffee began machine gunning my buds and rich, bold tobacco essence was on its flanks.

At about half way, this was a very big cigar. So much so that I kept looking at with eyebrows raised. The draw was slighly firm, indicating that they had jammed as much leave in this little buggar as possible. I didn't ash it until that point (half) and that took two taps. Ash was rather dark gray and very firm.

The spice started to become really nicely defined at this point and felt great on my palate. It never got harsh, or hot. That said, I did have to take great care not to let it get hot, given the svelte ring guage.

All in all, I really enjoyed the baby Casa. Well worth the price and the flavors were actually more satisfying than what I've found in the full size examples. Glad I had the good sense to buy two.

As for being a quick smoke... nope. It took me just over an hour.

Re: Baby Casa Magna

Nice review--I haven't found a Casa Magna yet, but hope to eventually.
As per smaller vitolas, You raise an interesting question, one I came to the opposite conclusion earlier this spring. I have found that with some of the cigars that I have, the smaller ring gauge actually gave stronger flavor. There was a thread recently where someone did the math and found that smaller r.g. cigars have more surface area of wrapper per filler. Seeing as how the wrapper holds most of the cigar's flavor, it made sense that those smaller cigars would yield the fullest flavor. The two brands that I have tasted this to be the case was the Alec Bradley Tempus and the Gran Habano 3Siglos. On both brands, I found the smaller r.g. cigars to have stronger flavors than their larger counterparts. Just imo...

Re: Baby Casa Magna

The Casa Magna Corona I smoked was overpowered by spice but I could taste earthiness trying to fight its way through. I did enjoy it enough to find a friend who was nice enough to pick me up a bundle of belicosos from his local B&M.

Glock sent me one of those in the "bomb". I really enjoyed it. Would love to try some of their larger ring guage stuff.

Re: Baby Casa Magna

I got two of these at the B & M the other week for $4.25 each. I loved them both although with a bit of age, I think they'd be outstanding.
