Alec Bradley Family Blend Review / Fallen Hero

I went to an Alec Bradley event a few weeks ago. One of the cigars I received for buying some Tempus was a new cigar called "The Family Blend". I put it in the crock pot until Saturday and decided it was time.

One reason I decided to fire this particular cigar up on Saturday at work is because we had a fallen hero being flown in. He was 22 years old (In the Army) and was killed in Afghanistan a few weeks ago. It was a pretty moving experience. There must have been 150+ motorcycles, several police agencies, plus of course a lot of family.

I'll tell you about the cigar, and also include a few pictures from the ceremony....

The blend:

Filler: Jalapa, Nicaragua
Trojes, Honduras
Binder: Indonesia Embetunado
Wrapper: Honduras Criollo 98

Shape: Toro
Size: 5.5 X 50
Draw: Perfect
Burn: Good (Considering is was a bit windy)
Construction: Excellent

Late May release. Triple-capped with pig tail.

It's very smooth, but complex with hints of leather and pepper.

It only comes in boxes of 50. For every box purchased in GA or FL, Alec Bradley will donate $10.00 to Paul Hernandez's son's college fund. Paul was a cigar rep, and then built a beautiful cigar shop in Miami. He passed away a little while back at the age of 37. I am friends with his brother, Steven, who is an awesome rep. He reps Tatuaje, Lotus, Xikar, and Gran Habano just to name a few....

Okay....

So the cigar pictures and a couple of pictures from the fallen hero ceremony....

If you can believe it, there was one funny thing that came from this day. I was smoking this cigar and walked over to the Hurst driver - A really nice fellow. He said he was upset because smelling my cigars made him want one BADLY. He said he has emphysema and cannot smoke. He asked me if I would take a big drag and blow it in his face. I did, and he was happy.

It's hard to really get an idea for how many motorcycles were there from these pictures.... they just kept coming and coming....

Re: Alec Bradley Family Blend Review / Fallen Hero

That is amazing. My uncle is one of those Army Vets that has a motorcycle and goes around to fallen soldiers funerals here in Kansas. A few years ago, back in my hometown, they had a funeral for a soldier they went to. About 100+ protestors showed up to protest the funeral, and the war in Iraq at the time. Everytime the protestors started to chant, the 200+ motorcycle guys started, and revved up their motorcycles to drown out the protestors so the family of the soldier could not hear what they were saying. Needless to say, the protestors didn't stay long. Anyways, great story. It's glad to know that there are still people out there supporting the men and women soldiers who provide us with our freedom. Smoke one, hell...smoke two, for the men and women of the armed forces!

Re: Alec Bradley Family Blend Review / Fallen Hero

i was gifted one of these by an AB rep at my local B&M this morning can't wait to get home and try it... construction is beautiful... large ring gauge (52-54) apprx 6in. with a triple cap and a pigtail... he gave me mine unbanded and said that they will be released unbanded a la the edge...the rep said it is almost the same blend as the tempus with a little less ligero in it so it should be a tad milder and that it will only be released in this size... it's sitting in my desk as we speak... wish we could still smoke inside... sigh
