CAO Mx2

Size:Gordo (6x60)

Ok, this won't be much of a review. Sorry had trouble with this one.

This is the biggest cigar as far as ring gauge that I have ever attempted to smoke. The fisrt one I tried I smoke it the same day I got it in the mail.
Everything looked good from construction to draw. Once I got it lit the burn was even great.

Whats the problem you ask?

I could not get enough smoke off of this thing to save my life. I really didn't get to taste so much because of this. Like I said the draw was good (medium) just wouldn't no matter how hard I puffed give me enough smoke.

I got through about 3 inches of it and then gave up. 5 Vegas 'A' saved the night.

Second try.

Almost two weeks later of sitting in the humi (last night) I figured I would give it another shot. Nope same thing. Got through about two inches then put it down and went grab a RP Vintage '90 to finish the job.

I was really looking foward to these and being as I am still a big CAO fan I will let the rest of them rest longer and give them another shot.

My question here is, Are all big gauge cigars like this? I smoked a few 56 ring gauges and there were fine.

Re: CAO Mx2

Well the Mx2 is always a good cigar for me, but I have not smoked the 6 x 60. The only really large ring gauge cigars I smoke are the Nubs and they produce a lot of smoke.

Re: CAO Mx2

I've never tried the MX2 Gordo so I'm unsure. I don't recall having the same issue with the Toros or robustos. I've smoked other large ring cigars that had plenty of smoke. Maybe someone else can enlighten us that has also tried the Gordo.

Re: CAO Mx2

Never had any trouble getting smoke out of an MX2 and IME, the bigger rings generally do better with this. Makes me think plugged or too moist. CAO packs a LOT of 'baccy in their sticks and the MX2 seems to want to smoke a little dryer.

For whatever reason, the MX2 is pretty strong for me. I like them a lot, but I have to be in the mood for them. It's not something I just grab out of the box.

Big rings are sort of a double edged sword for me. I really dont care for all that mass in my mouth and I dont find them particularly comfortable to hold, but there are certain cigars I will put up with. JdN Gran Consul and CAO Brazilia Amazon come immediately to mind.

If I had to guess I would say to moist. It was not plugged at all. My humi is sitting at 65% but they must have been shipped over humidified to keep them from drying out, I will give the rest a couple of months before I try again.

Case cracked!

I have found that nearly invariably, all the cigars I get from online vendors come too moist, likely for just this reason. Id lay odds that's what happened

Re: CAO Mx2

Wow sorry to hear that it didn't go so good. I have to agree a lot of the times my cbid sticks show up extra humidified after some rest (1 month) they seem to calm down.

Generally, I prefer a big smoke. Simply because I usually like to smoke for a long time. With the Mx2 I've had lots of smoke. I wouldn't say overly crazy but definitely not lacking. IMO it is an excellent smoke. I hope you will have the chance to agree.

Don't worry Josh I'm not giving up on them. It's really my fault for not letting them rest. After a month or so I'm going back after them. I could taste a little and I KNOW they have potential.

Re: CAO Mx2

Sounds like the cigar was either wet (likely) or maybe plugged. If a draw-poker doesnt' due the trick, then it's wet.

I've found that CAOs tend to arrive a bit wet, especially the maddies. I keep mine at 65% and sometimes even dry-box them for a day. That's just my limited experience, though. I'm far from an expert.

I'm only smoked 1 MX2, and liked it but wasn't blown away. Sort of falls in my "typical nice maddie" category.

Re: CAO Mx2

I think...Bigger ring gadge= milder smoke,
iv read lots of reviews where the 6X60 version was bland while the smaller rings where just great
maybe i'm wrong...
eg.

That sucks you had 2 bad ones in a row. Dry box them for a day or two before smoking them maybe.
