El Padrino by Oliveros

Brand: El Padrino
L/RG: 5.7x54
Size: Bugsy
Price: 35/bundle from cbid
Weather: 68 overcast
Bev: Coffee
Date: 6/11

Appearance/Presentation:
This looked great, nice oscuro wrapper. I've heard gossip that the wrappers are dyed but this one was uniform and had a nice color so i'm not sure about that. The label was just rediculous, gaudy and flashy, absolutely beautiful.
18/20

Lighting/Burning:
The light went well, nice and even, but things went bad about an inch in. First it got wavy and corrected itself a few times, but then it recquired about 3 manual corrections throughout the rest. I'm writing this off to high humidity because I had one of these over the winter and the burn was razor sharp.
11/15

Construction:
It felt pretty well put together, wrapper was well put on as was the triple cap. No soft or hard spots anywhere. The draw was too loose for me, and i like a loose draw in general but this one just didnt really have any resistance on the draw. Overall i was satasfied with the construction.
25/30

Taste:
These have a very unique taste. The first 5-10 puffs after the light have a really nice black pepper taste that fades into a really mellow and smooth taste. The taste after that was pretty consistent and was creamy, reminding me of the taste of half & half, with a nice deep chocolatey aftertaste that just sat in your mouth until the next puff. I've had 3 of these and the flavors were pinpoint the same in every single one, I would call 2 in a row a coincidence but 3 is definately a consistency.
30/35

Overview:
The price was definately right on these, when it was said and done i got them for like 1.50 apiece. Flavor is good, they look very impressive, and they are consistent from stick to stick. These things look sweet, with that huge flashy band and oscuro wrapper, they make anyone look like a badass when smoking one. Cbid had these all the time, so if you see them don't hesitate to jump on a bundle or split one with a buddy, you won'y be disappointed.

Great review and photos, Dom. After reading and viewing this I may have to try one. Love the tastes you describe as that is what I look for in a cigar and the added bonus of looking like a bada$$ is classic.

PS,,,,the deck looks like it could use a power wash,,,,,,and sealer. Just lookin out for ya!!

Re: El Padrino by Oliveros

Dom, nice review. I picked up a 5er of the big ones a few months ago and smoked one this week. I agree with your review, the only difference is I was lucky with no burn issues.

They are big ass flashy cigars, nice for putting on the Italian flair!

ive been very hesitant to try any oliveros after a terrible experience with the classic blend (yuck!) but after reading this review may have to give them a bit of my time

and for another big ass cigar - try the double corojo - not a bad smoke for the money - very smooth for a corojo.
