Review: NuB Maduro 460

Nub Maduro 460
Size: 4 x 60
Wrapper: Brazil
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Nicaraguan
Price : $5.95 @ Serious Cigars

Prelight:
This cigar had a perfect construction, flawless cap! Wrapper was dark chocolate with small bumps, a little oily. The smell of the wrapper was strong barnyard (can you say petting zoo!), the foot was barnyard with tobacco. I cut the cap with my Wolf V-Cutting which lead for a perfect draw. Predraw was tobacco flavor with hay.

First 3rd:
Hard to get a good light in the daylight with a torch lighter (this came back to haunt me later). It started off with just a slight spice ans seemed to be a dry smoke (but it didn'y dry out my mouth). And it had a ton of smoke which is always a good thing. It was hard to really pick out any flavors at this point. getting maybe a very light cocoa taste in smoke and in the finish. Was getting a dry hay flavor towards the end of the first 3rd and the burn was bad.

Second 3rd:
Flavor hasn't chsnged much, still plenty of smoke and ut being a Nub the ash was holding strong. But the burn was oof big time! I tried doing a Nub stand because I know if this burn I wouldn't get one later. But the burn was so off I couldn't even get one now, just knocked the ash off. This was the worst burning Nub I have ever smoked, but my 2nd Maduro and the first one burned perfect, so I will blame myself with the light. The flavor never hanged in the second 3rd of the cigar but I did get more cocoa in the finish. Not much flavor with the smoke so far, but for a young stick it is very smooth. Med Body smoke at this point.

Last 3rd:
The first 2/3rd I tried many times to correct the burn with no luck, at this point I'm giving up on that and just smoking. The flavor still seems to be about the same and I can at this point still take some long puffs with no heat. The cocoa flavor has gone away. Then out of the blue the flavor and body picked up, the burn pertty much corrected itself. The cocoa flavor came back along with a nutty flavor in the finish. The last third of this smoked saved it for me.

Final Thoughts:
This cigar had a very uneven burn, but I think it was because of the lighting. It was a very smooth cigar with not much flavor, but did pick up towards the end. The last third of this cigar saved it, and put a smile on my face. Also ending as a ned to full body cigar, more towards med. It took me 42 minutes to smoke. Not sure this will be my favorite Nub in the line but I will smoke some more.

Re: Review: NuB Maduro 460

I haven't tried a nub but they look great. If I'm not mistaken they are made by Oliva? You know they are food if its made by Oliva. Was waiting for them to come out with a Maddy, and saw a few weeks back that they did!

I needa try a Nub Maddy and a Camacho Conny.

Great review though. I often feel like describing a cigar with a strong odor as mulch or manure. Not the odor itself, just the strength and type of smell. Didn't know if it sounded stupid though or something haha.

Re: Review: NuB Maduro 460

Very nice picture review. Yes, they are made by Oliva, so where did Oliva get the maduro wrapper, and could it be the same as the Serie V especial maduro? What are they hiding from us?

Thanks for the review. I recently had the Habano which also had tons of burn issues. It seems that this is not uncommon with Nubs.

Re: Review: NuB Maduro 460

tx tuff,

Do you feel that some rest in lower RH may help the smoke?

I ask because the one I had was a few days old from Devil's and their smokes tend to come in a little bit on the wet side. I also noticed that few people who have told me they also had burn issues that the smokes were fairly recently recieved. Just curious.

Probaly so, these are such fat cigars. Try dry boxing them a few hours before you smoke them. I have had a couple of the cammies spilt on me before for prob the same reason. But this is really the first time I had this bad of a burn prob (it burned uneven but never went out). So I am pretty sure it was the light, has to do with a torch in sunlight.
