'08 Opus X Fuente Fuente

Cigar: Opus X Fuente Fuente
Year: 2008
Cutter: Xikar
Lighter: Ronson Jet-Lite
Beverage: Coke Zero

Pre-cut: Nice looking wrapper, tan in color. Oily sheen to it. Pre-light draw shows signs of some spice.

1st Third: Some sweet spice and pepper comes at you from the initial light. Copious amounts of smoke with each puff. I have not smoked one of these in probably a year and it starts out just as I remember it.

2nd third: Full flavored with very thick smoke, almost chewy. Spice and pepper has come to the forefront. Getting some type of sweet taste also, could it be orange zest or possibly nutmeg? The combination of pepper and sweet is really nice. Tongue and lips have that familiar nicotine tingle.

Final third: Spice and pepper still out front. The sweetness is pretty much gone now, just straight forward tingly spice. Still plenty of smoke volume. Burn has been even throughout.

These are just as I remember them, OUTSTANDING!!! It still surprises me that Fuente can get so much "POP" out of Dominican tobacco. Just goes to show that he is truly a master at what he does. Definitly not a smoke for the uninitiated.

I never had one, therefore I have never been alive.

I have to try one of these too...

And I love that Ronson lighter... nice patina I have been looking for one of those with no avail. There is a spot for them at Walmart but they are always sold out.

You gonna do a full review or add your thoughts here? Hope you enjoy it as much as I did mine.

I found my Ronsons in a Bi-Lo grocery. Don't know if you have them where you are.

Re: '08 Opus X Fuente Fuente

Nope, though I have checked in the local drugstores (walgreens, Rite-aid). I know some have said they are available at CVS but we don't have that chain here!

Sorry about going off topic

A lot of Wal-Marts are hit and miss regarding the Ronsons. They can also be found sometimes at CVS.

Also I would like you to add your thoughts on the cigar here if you don't mind. It would help out some people who are not sure they want to try/buy them.

Im at about the halfway point right now... the citrusy zest is still definately here and kicking... lots and lots of good smoke.. nice white ash.. even burn... the finish on it is sweet with a slight hint of vanilla

Re: '08 Opus X Fuente Fuente

I smoked an Opus when I first started getting into cigars. I didn't particularly like the cigar, mostly because I had been used to Mild-Med smokes. I smoked mostly Conn. or Maduro wrappers, so it was just like a kick to the face when I had one.

I do think everyone should try them. Just wait until your pallete evolves and is ready to tackle a full bodied smoke like the Opus. About 6-7 months after my first Opus, I went back and smoked another one and I was just amazed at how great the cigar was. I was able to identify certain flavors, and to truely enjoy the smoke.

I'd recommend that this cigar wouldn't be for the newbie cigar smoker, but definately would for someone who is ready to tackle the fuller bodied smokes.

Excellent review and a nice lighter. BTW....my Walmart is sold out of them too haha.
