Padilla 1948 Review
The Padilla 1948 combines a vintage blend of Cuban-seed Nicaraguan Corojo and Nicaraguan Criollo long-leaf tobaccos with a thick Nicaraguan Corojo wrapper.
Shape: Robusto Size: 5 X 50 Draw: Good (Could be a little better though) Burn: Decent Construction: Excelllent This cigar starts off with a nice tingle of pepper on the back of your throat. Then some spice kicks in and really makes your tongue come to life! Overall, it's not bad. I think it needs a little more age or something. It kinda had this wild chemical-like taste right around the band and that taste stayed in my mouth forever! As you can see, I did not smoke but about half of this cigar. I'll have to try another one out after it has been in the crock pot for a while. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: Padilla 1948 Review
I just think the 1932 and Miami are so freaking good that anything else Padilla makes just doesn't compare.

Re: Padilla 1948 Review
Thanks for your review, as always.
I got in on that CI deal last week too. Perhaps I should end my tastings with the 1932 and finish off the others; 1968 and 1948 first. Then again, I am an optimist, so maybe I will leave some in the bottom of the humi to age a while. Nonetheless, I am really looking forward to these. Padilla is getting a lot of press around the forums lately. |

Who knows, though, your tastes might run to any of the 3! I haven't had the '48 yet myself, and have only had one '68 (which was very flavorful, but didn't wow me). But the '32 is a current fave...in fact...I haven't picked a stick out for tonight yet... |

Re: Padilla 1948 Review
You zeroed in on the salient features of the 1948 Padilla, including that nasty taste near the band. I thought that had something to do with what I was drinking...blaaghhh! Except for that, I thought it was a very nice smoke but nowhere near the 1932.

Re: Padilla 1948 Review
I have a couple of the corona gorda size, leftover from when Pepin Garcia made them for him. I liked them very much, they have an unusual flavor profile which is very tasty. I havent had the latest ones yet.

Re: Padilla 1948 Review
I also smoked one this past week and didn't get that chemical taste.
But mine had a good amount of age on it. |

Re: Padilla 1948 Review
Ok, I just sampled this one last night and I see what your saying. The draw on mine was a bit firm, but adequate. Flavor profile a little different than I've smoked before. It had a rich tasty leathery core with a bit of spice and wood, but as you point out, a strange note (chemical?). That chem. note began for me during the first 1/4 and continued the whole way. It reminded me of really stong black tea with a little sugar in it. Overall though, I enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to the others from that CI Padilla sampler.
Thanks for sharing your notes DBC. |
