RP Sungrown Belicoso

I was excited to watch the race today and smoke a fine cigar. However I chose this gastly thing and darn near ruined my whole day! It looks like a fine stick, well made with a perfect draw. Then I lit it. It had a creamy flavor but there was something intertwined in this thing that just made me gag! Sort of a sour/tart flavor. This was a well aged cigar too. It sat in my humi for months and sat in somebody elses for many months. I made it through the first inch then put it down. I ran to the humi and picked a Padilla 1932. Always a trusty backup. It saved the day. Then my driver completely ruined my day. God I hate Boris Said. Anyhow im starting to lose all interest in RP.

Re: RP Sungrown Belicoso

Sorry you had a bad experience with this one. Glad the '32 ruled the day though. I have recently aqcuired some and am looking forward to them!
The first RP sungrown I had was back in January; a robusto. It was a bit bitter tasting. I let the other ones sit in the humidor for a couple of months before trying again, then presto--a much better cigar. I really like these now. They are some of Rocky's fuller strength offerings to date. When I first joined puff (club-stogie) last year, lots of folks sung the sg praises, tempting me to try, and I have since been impressed myself. I think you probably got a bad stick, and I wouldn't give up on these just yet.

Re: RP Sungrown Belicoso

The sungrown is the first cigar I burned my fingers on. I couldn't put it down it was so tasty.
I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it. MY only suggestion would be to give it another try. Preferrably one that is "free" in case you just don't like that blend.

I have a couple on hand and actually have a couple Sungrown "A"'s from 1995. Each in it's own coffin.

RP is what really draw me in. I could not believe that tobacco could taste like that (V92 & V90).

Re: RP Sungrown Belicoso

I'm not a big RP fan either, but I think the sungrown is a good solid cigar. My gf and I have burned through a couple 5 packs of torpedos and we haven't run across a bad one yet. I'm sorry your experience with these wasn't the best, but I think this cigar deserves a second chance.

Re: RP Sungrown Belicoso

I have yet to smoke an RP that wasn't a complete disappointment, though in fairness, I haven't smoked one of these. But then, judging by the crap I have endured from them, what would convince me to take up another RP smoke? My impression is that RP is not a brand, for those for whom big flavors are paramount.

Re: RP Sungrown Belicoso

I am smoking a RP Sun Grown Toro as I type this. Love it. Get it another shot. Try the toro or robusto. You may have better luck!

Happy Smoking!!!
