Don Pepin Garcia Cuban Classic Perla

Cigar: Don Pepin Garcia Cuban Classic Perla
Cutter: Xikar
Lighter: Ronson Jet-Lite
Beverage: Coke Zero

I will be reviewing this in halves instead of thirds due to the short length of it.

Pre-cut: Beautiful, lush wrapper. I love the fact that the Don puts a triple cap on his smokes. This is a gorgeous little cigar.
Pre-light draw is pure pepin spice that makes the mouth water.

1st Half: Starts out with a pretty good blast of peppery spice and that familiar Pepin "twang". Clouds of smoke on every puff and just a hint of something sweet tasting (maybe ginger?). The burn is razor sharp and the stick is pure heaven so far.

2nd Half: This is now a full frontal assault of the palate. A mix of pepper, sweet, and creamy cover the entire mouth on every puff. Hints of the twang that is so common to Cuban cigars lingers ever so faintly in the background. The lips and tongue tingle and the saliva glands work overtime.

This is a little powerhouse of a cigar that just explodes with flavor. Leaves you feeling satisfied and a bit euphoric. One thing about Pepin, he comes as close as possible to the classic Cuban taste without using Cuban tobacco.

A great review makes you want to go into your humidor and pull one of these out and smoke it immediately.

That's exactly how I feel right now!

Pepin is a very solid line in my opinion.

Re: Don Pepin Garcia Cuban Classic Perla

......was hoping for the 601 Red.

But anyway, I would totally make the DPG black label my everyday smoke if it weren't for the price tag! But you do get what you pay for! I was very fortunate to be gifted two robustos by a very generous botl.

Re: Don Pepin Garcia Cuban Classic Perla

I am enjoying one of these right now - different size (I think a Robusto?) and more elaborate band on the cigar. I've just passed the halfway point. I'd say that pepper and spice are definitely the dominant flavors in this cigar (or vitola) through the first half. The second half is just starting to kick out some creamy vanilla flavors - if they keep up I will definitely give this high marks! Great burn and lots of thick smoke.

Edit - actually I have my Ronson lighter with me as well - I just held it up to your photo for a life-size comparison - I'm definitely smoking a bigger cigar than your review That is a little guy for sure. Must be a nice quick smoke!

Re: Don Pepin Garcia Cuban Classic Perla

I just got a 5 pack of the 1979's in with the old bands. I'm super excited about these. I know I should let them rest for a couple weeks after their travel from CI, but I think I'm going to cave in this weekend and fire one up. I've had 2 before and they were outstanding!

Re: Don Pepin Garcia Cuban Classic Perla

I love the Cuban Classic (though for a similar smoke I prefer the Padilla 1932). The robusto is probably my favorite size, but I agree that this small pc is great for a short smoke. The corona is very nice as well for an extra 15-minutes or so. This is one of those cigars that's actually worth the price, imvho.
