Puros Indios Chief Review
Well, me and a friend finally did it, we took down the chief. Some of you may have read the stupid acts whatever something. I looked for the site and it wasn't working, so tough luck. For those of you you have't seen that, it was a log following a man smoking one of these guys. I now have done something like that, but not as detailed. Me and a friend did this a couple weeks ago and I just haven't gotten around to writin this up. Basically, I just wrote down what I was thinking at the time of smoking this. So here it is, for your enjoyment.
EDIT (damnit, i wish the pics worked. ahhh well it's too late, can't concentrate without sleep )Puros Indios Chief 18x66 Fall ’05 – me and Ryan decide we want a chief. 4/13 – receive two chiefs (natural) for 15.95 a pop from Famous Smoke. 4/15 – the day is here. 11:30 – we go to Jewel and get 24 Mountain Dews, 24 Squirts, and a bag of Ruffles Cheddar and Sour Cream. 11:52 – the chiefs come out of the cooler, and their coffins. 11:58 – they measure 17 3/8 inches and a tad thinner than 1 1/8 thick. 12:06 – we figured out that the best way to cut it is with a knife. 12:08 – after the cut they measure 17 1/8 inches. 12:09 – Ryan lights up. 12:10 – it’s Al’s turn. 12:13 – the draw is ridiculous-smoke comes from the foot and won’t come out from drawing-hard to hold in hand-biggest cigar I’ve had length and width wise-uncomfortable in my mouth-I’ve only had 2 Puros Indioses before this-it’s starting out decent-toasty flavors like wood, nuts, coffee, some cedar. Re: Puros Indios Chief
(glad to see that my stinky ash tray still works)
12: 20 – wrapper is flaky, so I took off some at the head of the cigar. 12: 21 – still extremely hard to get smoke. 12:30 – 20 minutes-1 1/8 inches smoked. 12:41 – we’re hungry. 12:44 – open the chips-cheddar and sour cream go well with this cigar. 12:49 – flavors are mostly the same. 12:51 – listening to 97.1 the Drive-long time gone by CSN is on-switching to Sox game soon. 12:55 – change of plans, a live version of Lola is on. 1:02 – feel restless, we walk around the backyard for a little bit. 1:10 – put chips away and preheat oven in preparation for our chicken patties. |

1:15 – foot picture. (I'm a size 13) [IMG][/IMG]
1:18 – more woody flavors, some caramel and coffee, very earthy almost like dirt-taste similar to my other two previous PIs. 1: 21 – new flavor suddenly appear, an extremely heavy coffee flavor. 1: 23 – Ryan is at 11 inches. Al is at 12 ¼ inches. 1:39 – eat chicken patties on a hamburger bun and sweet baby ray’s BBQ sauce. 1:51 – flavors mostly the same-smoke is easier to get-much easier to keep lit than earlier because of the better draw. 1:53 – chicken patty really hit the spot. 1:59 – same flavors-it’s a pretty boring smoke-feels like a chore sometimes. 2:06 – some slight tunneling. 2:10 – it’s been 2 hours, I’m at 10 inches exactly. 2:12 – construction is pretty good-I’m impressed-ash holds well. 2: 25 – jaws starting to get sore. 2:44 – more woodsy like flavors, kind of grassy. 2:51 – our cigars are now at exactly the same length, amazing! Never happened before since he always smokes much faster than me. 3:10 – 3 hours-it’s 7 inches long, a standard Churchill length, but fatter. 3: 26 – we’ve gotten to the dark part-same flavors, less pronounced but intense-little bit of spice coming in-now it definitely feels like a chore. (here is a pic from earlier, showing the change in the wrapper color) 3:54 – 6 inches-more spice, same wood and cedar, some caramel. |

Re: Puros Indios Chief
5:10 – it’s been 5 frickin hours-I’m at 3 ¾ inches.
5:17 – band comes off. 5:19 – Ryan finishes-2 ¾ inches remain-total time=5hrs. 10mins. 5:34 – want to quit-lightheaded and tired-go inside and come out and the porch reeks of stale smoke, of course it does, there’s been smoke here for 5 hours. 5:37 – man, it really is a chore. 5:39 – harsh-purged a couple times already-hard to get flavors. 5:40 – sitting here, sipping on straight sugar. 5:43 – last puff-2 ¾ inches left-total time=5hrs. 33mins. WOW. I really don't know if I would ever do that again. Man, it was a marathon. It was just nuts that something liek this could be made and smoked. But here are a couple shots after the damage was done. Re: Puros Indios Chief
You're the only BOTLs I've heard of who actually smoked a Chief to completion! I am not worthy!

Re: Puros Indios Chief
I think these cigars are best used as a "peace pipe" type cigar. Getting 4 or 5 buds together and sitting around- pass it around for a puff or two at a time. Just my opinion.
GREAT endurance!

Re: Puros Indios Chief
Sounds like a good golf cigar. 18 holes + enough left for the 19th hole.
