Padron 3000 Maduro Review

This was my first Padron ever. I was expecting to be blown away!

But I wasn't.

I cut this wonderful looking and feeling (VERY silky in my fingertips) with a punch. Pre-light flavour was very earthy, and the draw was good.

I lit this with my no-name brand triple torch and it lit ok but a little unevenly due to doing this with almost no light besides the flame itself.

The first few puffs gave very little smoke but the smoke that hit me was very spicy (not sweet-spice).

I let it burn a bit and gave it a few more draws- and the draw was much better, much more smoke.

The smoke was very thick and white. Ash held on for a long time.

As for the flavour- I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I might have. It was not very complex and remained mainly the same throughout the smoke- a very earthy/dirt taste with a spicy bite. When I got down to the last two inches or so I tasted a hint of tabacco sweetness that I enjoyed for 2 or 3 puffs- but then it dissapeared.

I guess I will have to try the natural line and get a few more maduros to let sit in the humidor for a while.

Maybe my palette just isn't ready for this smoke yet?

Re: Padron 3000 Maduro

Good review. Thanks.

I haved smoked quite a few 2000 maduros and normally enjoy them. I do agree with you that they are probably not very complex and are consistent throughout the smoke. (I have found the 3000 that i smoked to be virtually identical to the 2000's, just a slightly different size). Consistency is one of the more common complaints surrounding padrons (they are too consistent during the course of the smoke). Reviewers even critize their ultra premiums (anni, 1926, etc) for this. Padrons are kind of like Popeye, "I am's what I am's", right from the start and they don't change or evolve as the smoke progreses. Having said that however, I do notice a difference from one cigar to next, especially with the maduros. Cigars from the same box seem to be the same, but each box seems to be slightly, or even majorly, different. I have Padron 2000's in my humi from 3 different boxes. All 3 are completely diffrent. I can tell by looking at them which ones are which and I know how they will smoke.
So even if you don't like the rest of the ones you have, you may want to try some from another box. On the other hand, maybe their flavor profile just doesn't suit you. I was really keen on trying the Rocky Patel Vintage line. From everything I read, it should have suited me perfectly. When I finally tried one I thought it sucked.

What a great maduro period. Padron rocks!

I wasn't blown away with the 3000 either. I am letting them rest a bit longer before I try another one.

In the same shipment from the Devil, I got a fiver of 64 PANs.

I was blown away. I've got four more that aren't going to get the rest they need. I'll be lucky if they see the box I'm going to order once I find the room (damn this site. Already planning on a coolerdor)

Re: Padron 3000 Maduro

I haven't tried the 3000 yet, but I just recently tried the 2000. It was a bit one dimensional, but it way very enjoyable. I thought it was a good smoke, and I will definately be getting more. Definately not the best stick out there though.

Re: Padron 3000 Maduro

Thanks for the opinions guys.

I think I will go back and buy a few different sized maduros and naturals and see which ones I like and which I dont, or if I like any of them at all.

Re: Padron 3000 Maduro

Did you buy it, then smoke it that same day? I never smoke something I just bought. They never seem to burn correctly, and almost always taste bad to me. This is from anywhere I get them...B&M and internet. Like you said, get a couple and let them rest for a bit. The Padrons are a great smoke, but everybody's tastes are different.

Re: Padron 3000 Maduro

Yeah I bought it from a local B&M (Serious Cigars-they also deal online at seriouscigars.com). Seems like the walk in humidor is kept up quite well but you may be right.

Thanks for the tip

Age some, then try em.

This is a cigar that truly changes dramatically with 6 mo to a year of humi time.
