Review - AVO #2 Review

*================================================= =================*/
/*========================== CIGAR_REVIEW ==========================*/
/*================================================= =================*/
DATE: 2006/05/14
REVIEWER: Timothy "Texan_To_The_End" Piper
CIGAR: AVO #2
SIZE: 6.0" X 50
ORIGIN: Dominican
WRAPPER: Ecuadoran (or Connecticut depending on info source)
BINDER: Dominican
FILLER: Dominican
SHAPE: Toro
AGE: Unknown; estimated to be aged about one year by gifter.
VENDOR: Gifted by Longashes. (Thanks again!)
For the "Domestic Review Contest".
AMBIENCE: Mother's Day early afternoon, finished mowing the lawn.
Very quiet day, low humidity and it's gonna rain soon.
BEVERAGE: None
APPEARANCE: Smooth dry wrapper, slightly veiny. Very light in
weight. Wrapper was light tan, almost oily. A very
beautiful color to the wrapper.
PRE_LIGHT: Very easy draw with not much flavor except "cigar".
Had an almost typical Conn-taste to the wrapper. I
punch most cigars and this punched crisp & clean.
DRAW: Good draw, and I'll note here that the cap was nice
and sturdy; I never do this but one could clench this
cigar in their teeth and it wouldn't crack the wrapper.
FIRST_THIRD: Very pleasant mellow taste which lost that typical
Conn-type taste (which I don't usually enjoy) almost
immediately. A very slight woody flavor to the stick
and a creamy taste to the smoke.
SECOND_THIRD: The woody taste diminished and the cream developed
a little more. Surprising volume of smoke. This cigar
seemed to enhance my relaxation.
FINAL_THIRD: Nicotine got a bit stronger; surprising in a mild
tasting cigar. The blend of cream and nicotine was
extremely well done. At the nub it seemed to develope
an almost minty tone to the cream. Had to use a
toothpick as I didn't want to put it down. As a perfect
finish to a very good cigar it started raining as soon
as I put it down.
BURN: Evened out immediately and stayed perfect to the end.
ASH: Dark grey mottled ash which lasted 1.5 inches before
breaking off to a nice point. I broke the ash 3 times
and the pieces in the ashtray fit together perfectly.
SMOKE: An almost yellow smoke, incredibly good volume.
STRENGTH: Mild turning to medium. Deceptively powerful towards
the nub.
FLAVOUR: Very mild flavor, creamy. It went extremely well with
the scent of the freshly mown lawn.
FINISH: A finish similar to the Por Larranga I recently had,
but milder.
SMOKE_TIME: 75 minutes
IMPRESSION: Although I prefer heavier maduro smokes, this AVO was
a pleasant surprise. It's been the best of the mild
cigars I've had. It made for a very relaxed hour.
RATING: 8 out of a possible TEN wooden matchsticks.
COMMENTS: As the result of this gifted cigar, I'm going to put
the AVO on my box purchase short-list. I've not had
many cigars that seem to actually change my mood, but
this one certainly enhanced the afternoon.

Good review Texan. Glad to have you as a member. Keep them coming. The Avo's I've had have all been very very mild but very creamy and smoothe. I ilke that this one had a little strength to it in the end. May add it to my singles 'try' list.

The strength kick came primarily in the last half. Not one of those type of kicks that throw you back in the chair with your face turning pale and sweaty; just a steady increase that was really nice.

Helluva review Texan, very descriptive, it was almost as if I were smoking it in your yard with you
I have yet to try one of the AVO's although I have one sitting in my humi for over 3 months now; I gotta fire it up real soon.
Thanks

Thanks.

By the way, that is the format for all of my reviews. I post them in the Review Forum here, and in the Review DB of Top25Cigars itself. I also post them on UseNET in alt.smokers.cigars Some people don't like my format and admittedly I had a "font issue" with the first three I posted here, but I've normalized it now. I actually have a review sheet printed out so I can take notes while sitting out on the porch smoking a "Review Stick". Right now I'm about twenty-six cigars behind on reviews, so I better get smokin'.
