Arturo Fuente Chateau Fuente (Sun Grown) Review

Arturo Fuente Chateau Fuente (Sun Grown)
Size: 4 1/2 x 50
Shape: Robusto
Wrapper: Ecuadorian Sun Grown
Filler: Dominican
Binder: Dominican
Price: $4.10 single at B&M store

Pre-light: This cedar wrapped cigar is dark brown in color, between a natural and a maduro. It has a spicy, cedar aroma. Veins are prominent, and the cigar feels solid in the hand. The center tobacco is much darker in color than the binder. The cap cut cleanly using a guillotine, with a loose draw.

First Third: The first few draws are peppery, with loads of thick smoke. It mellows out a bit with a medium body, and a one-dimensional spicy flavor. I start having a burn issue right away, fighting one side of the wrapper that keeps burning much slower than the rest of the gar.

Middle: Flavors become more complex adding cedar and caramel. The ash has held into the second third. I am still fighting burn issues on one side of the cigar, and have touched up twice more.

Last Third: The sweetness of the caramel is coming through stronger, with a nutty under-tone. Even though I took an hour and 15 minutes to smoke, I am feeling nicotine over-dose by the time I put it out. I was enjoying the gar so much I ignored my body's warnings.

Overall experience: This is an enjoyable, spicy, medium bodied smoke that I would like to pick up a box of. The sun-grown wrapper gives a much stronger, spicier flavor than the regular or maduro wrapper. This is a good go-to cigar in the $3-4 range.

Very nice review. These have been a staple in my humidor for years even though, as you point out, they do often have burn problems. I find them to be a great morning smoke with coffee.

Re: Arturo Fuente Chateau Fuente (Sun Grown) Review

I've pretty much given up on the Fuente stuff other than Opus, Don Carlos, and Anejo. Every time I get onto something I like, they change the blend. Used to love the Flor Fina (8-5-8 ) and damned if they didn't change that (multiple times now).

My advice is that if you find a blend you really like, stock up! Once you smoke up your stock, buy singles to see if theyre still the same.

Re: Arturo Fuente Chateau Fuente (Sun Grown) Review

Fuente`s taste so good, I want to bake a cake with them,

Excellent review, short but very complete and detailed. I really like this part:

I was enjoying the gar so much I ignored my body's warnings.

I had one last night just like that.

Cheers,
Randy

I agree the blends do change some because the tobacco is different from year to year. This years AF Hemmingways are the best they have been in a few years.
I think that Fuente is pretty consistent - but some years are better than other years.
