Padilla 1948 Robusto Review

Padilla 1948
Robusto
5 x 50
Nicaraguan Criollo and Corojo, with Corojo Wrapper

I smoked my first one about a month ago and thought it had potential, but a strange chemical flavor corrupted the overall impression. So here goes another try after a little rest in the humi.

Review:
Nice looking cigar, with some minor irregular burning, but good draw.
Rich, chewy smoke with earth and wood dominating. A little spice creeps in here and there, and the cigar has an unusual, sweet, but dry cherry tasting finish. That "cherry" finish is what seemed kinda acrid and synthetic before, but now it has a much softer and natural pairing intermixed with the hearty wood flavors. An enjoyable smoke. I'm glad I gave it another run.

Re: Padilla 1948 Robusto Review

Nice review and pictures.

Was the the OR or the re-release after Padilla moved to his own factory and split from DPG? From the pics it looks like the re-release.

Both are really great smokes. Ones that I would never turn down. I have found that giving all Padilla smokes a long rest, 6 months, really helps to balance them out. I also like to dry box them over night if I can and smoke them on the dry side of 65.

Very nice review, I smoked one a couple of weeks ago and agree with what you posted.

It is a nice cigar.

To the best of my knowledge, these are post split with DPG. Also fyi, these were purchased as part of a Padilla commemorative sampler just over a month ago which also included 5'ers of 1968, and the 1932, which by the way was awesome. I have yet to review the other ones.

Re: Padilla 1948 Robusto Review

I only have 1 of these so I've been waiting to smoke it. But this review makes me want to light it up tomorrow...a sweet finish is always appealing to me, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the 1932.

Thanks for the nice review and pics. I get the same impression on these. They woudl be really good smokes if they had a little more body to them.

I'm also in agreement with your review, thanks for posting it. I do prefer the '32 & 68, but these have mellowed nicely in the month or so since purchase.
