Oliva Serie V review

Oliva

Serie V

Brethren,

After hearing great things about this smoke I was eager to try the Serie V. This was a great looking cigar. Very dark brown wrapper with light oils present. Very firm to the touch with a sweet tobacco scent. I clipped the cap and lit 'er up.

From the Oliva site - Serie V is a complex blend of Nicaraguan long filler tobaccos. Blended with specially fermented Jalapa Valley ligero, and finished with a high priming Habano Sun Grown Wrapper.

The initial flavors were quite good. I would agree on the rich coffee and dark chocolate tones. Unfortunately this cigar was very short lived. Around the halfway mark it became so plugged the cigar was un-smokable. I did my best to get the cigar to draw but was unable. Sadly I had to put her down. What I did get out of it was very good. Every now and again you get a dud. I will have to pick up another.

Which vitola was it?

Sorry to hear it was plugged. You do know that you can un-plug it right?

Re: Oliva Serie V review

That's pretty rare I think. I've smoked quite a few V's and never had one plugged. Hopefully I just didn't mess up my run. Great cigar, get another one. They truly are a very good smoke.

I have smoked quite a few of these and never had an issue. I would try it again if I were you. They are very tasty.

Re: Oliva Serie V review

I have smoke about 50 V's of all shapes and they are my fav smoke! I guess you were very unlucky, don't let this hold you back and try another one asap!

I would say that their main quality as a cigar manufacturer is their flawless construction, so I must say i'm surprise!

Alright let's forget about this, light another one and let us know how it was!

Cheers!

Sorry to hear that. That is really out of character for a V. Definitely give these another go. They are very tasty!

Re: Oliva Serie V review

I have smoked alot of V's, and have to admit this is the first I have even heard of a plug. Are you sure it was not tar build up on the head? That I have seen,(especially the V maddie) a quick clip and your back in business

I keep buying and smoking these like theyre going out of style. Bought two torps (my favorite vitola) today, in fact. Never had a single issue. Im curious that you say it, BECAME plugged. To me, plugged is plugged. It either starts out that way, or it doesn't. Sounds to me as though you either encountered some humidity issues, or perhaps some tar build up.

As stated, DON'T give up on the V's. Absolutely one of my favorite smokes of any kind at any price.

Re: Oliva Serie V review

I have enjoyed about 1/2 of my box already. I haven't had any issues with plugging. I would honestly give them another try.
