4 year old Old World Reserve Robusto Maduro

So I thought I would tell you guys what I thought about one of my longest aged sticks.
Lighter: Dupont Xtend
Cutter: Palio (black original)
Beverage: Bells Kalamazoo Stout

perhaps a little history of this particular cigar is in order. 4 years ago I bought 2 smoked one within the week and it tasted like grass. I was so disappointed, but it didn't seem to be a bad cigar just too young. I was willing to give it another shot but only with some time in the humi. four years later (roughly). today I decided, well it is the oldest stick I have but considering I had no idea if it wouldl be improved from its brother, I thought I would give it a go.

as you can see from the picture I like to take the band off immediately before I light.

the pre-light draw was very nice easy and with hints of Spanish cedar.

the light took over a minute and a half but it was well worth it to get a nice cool cloud of smoke on the first draw. My eyes opened in astonishment. I tasted similar flavors to what I tasted in the previous younger one, only now that overwhelming grass flavor was a more earthy EXTREMELY smooth flavor of caramel and nut again with hints of Spanish cedar.

Now while I must say this is by no means equal to an equally aged Padron aniversario. I was very pleased to notice the vast improvement over the younger version. its amazing what 4 short years will do to improve a cigar.

I noticed very little spice until the last 2 inches where its harshness increased quite pleasingly. to the point where I set it down with 1 inch of unburned wrapper.

in conclusion I would say this isn't worth 10 dollars especially when Padron 64 exclusivos are that much better even without the added age. but definitely a nice cigar if the price is right and the time had.

That just goes to prove that things do get better with age. I am glad your Patience paid off. Great ashtray also!

Re: 4 year old Old World Reserve Robusto Maduro

I'm a fan of this cigar and love maduro cigars in general. I have found that maduros tend to age better and the flavor profile is enhanced with at least a year on them. I like the OWR and have some that are in the 2 year range and when I smoke them I get those flavors you mentioned as well. When I get my orders of cigars it's hard not to just take one out and smoke it and for the most part I am able to stop myself because I have a lot of cigars that are in a rotation.

That is great. I have made a few humidors myself. I will be starting my next one tomorrow. I was thinking of an Ashtray also. The big chunky look is good on that. The carve marks really make it. Good job.
