Gifted Reviews #3 Custom blend from Par

The third in my series of gifted reviews is a Toro that was gifted to me in a trade by Par. This cigar was custom blended for him at one of his locals shops so there is no name on this one and I can only guess as to what this is made up of until he tells me. For all intents and purposes I will review this as a blind review. The size on this is exactly 6” x 50 RG and has a nice sweet smell to it. The smell has undertones of Cocoa, coffee and slight hints of nut. The wrapper is dark but not Maduro dark and has the slightest hint of oiliness to it when touched and feels firm yet moist. The veins are tiny and very smooth as well. From the smell and feel so far I am guessing that the outer wrapper on this is a Cameroon and possibly Nicaraguan and Honduran fillers.

I used a punch on this cigar which went through beautifully and with little effort> toasted the foot and after about 30 seconds I took the first puff. The draw was absolutely perfect (Coodo’s to your roller on these) and the ash held for about an inch and a half until it fell off for the first time. The taste lives up to the smell prior to lighting with hints of tastes of all three things mentioned already, Cocoa, Coffee and nuts and tasted very similar to a CAO MX2 that I had recently but is milder in body with a shorter finish on the palette that is making this a wonderful smoke so far.

In the middle of the cigar the tastes remained mostly the same but did become slightly bolder with another underlying taste that cam in for about an inch of the cigar that I can only describe as a burned oak taste. There was also the introduction of a slight bit of spice as well. The burn has remained consistent throughout the cigar with a nice grey brown ash and nice thick plumes of brown smoke. In the last inch 2 inches of this cigar the taste became increasingly bolder and the spiciness picked up steadily right to the end of this cigar . This was an incredibly enjoyable smoke and would definitely smoke this again so Par, if you are going to have some of these made up in the future then pleas let me know, I may just kick in a few bucks to have you get a few extra rolled for a fellow BOTL. Great cigar from a great BOTL, thank you. I must go sit for a little while until this wonderful nicotine buzz wears off.

Re: Gifted Review #3 Custom belnd from Par

It's a custom blend made for me by a retired roller that rolled for dunhill after he escaped from cuba (he worked in one of the cuban factories prior to working for dunhill but i don't know which one). The tobacco is nicaraguan which has been aged in old cognac barells (this is where the slightly sweet pre-draw taste comes from imho).

i asked him to blend me something robust with a full body. He handselected the tobacco and had it imported to the US before he rolled them for me. I can select shape but i told him to roll it in an shape he wanted.

I've found this to be an excellent cigar, and the fact that the cigars stay in the blending/rolling room until i pick them up (the whole room is humidified) may have something to do with the fact that the cigars are in such a wonderful shape with nice hints of oil on the wrappers.

When i spoke to him he told me that the hardest part was getting his hands on high quality tobacco for import to the US. The rolling part was the easy part.
