Perdomo Lot 23

Perdomo Lot 23
Churchill (7.0" x 50)
Smoke time: A little over an hour and a half.
Beverages: Sam Adams Summer ale, Labatt Blue light

Description per CI:
"The Perdomo Lot 23 brand refers to a field of special tobaccos cultivated in the year 2000. That was when Nick Perdomo planted an experimental crop on a virgin field which he called Lot 23. This field produced a very small crop of tobaccos, and these tobaccos, 6 years later, were carefully blended together to create a unique Nicaraguan handmade."

I originally received this when I won an auction on the devil site for the mild and mellow sampler. It has sat in my humi for about 4 months. I have sort of a love-hate relationship with Perdomo. I have found some that I have really liked and others that have been so-so. I really did not know what to expect with the lot 23.

Apperance 7/10

This is a decent looking cigar. The band is alright (nothing special), and it shows a neat picture of the plantation, and is quite large. The wrapper has a nice shade to it. Throughout the smoke the ash also varied between white and gray, but ash color has never had that much of an impact on myself.

Construction 7/10

A few problems, but nothing that serious. The cigar it self had two minor surface cracks on it, but this could have been due to shipping or any number of reasons. The burn was very good and worked around the cracks with no problems. not a perfect burn, but one side never got that much further than the other. It lost some points when it went out with about 2 and a half inches left. After the relight, it had no problems.

Flavor 7/10

All in all, this is a pretty decent tasting smoke. Very smooth and on the medium side. It didn't take too long for it to mellow out after the initial light, which is nice. Throughout most of the smoke, it carried a creamy taste and it seemed to me that I could detect hints of vanilla and chocolate flavor together. It stayed pretty consistent, but turned a little sour near the last couple of inches. I would have to say that it stayed pretty consistent in its peak flavor for a good hour.

Value 7/10

For the price, this is a decent smoke. It is not worth $97.75 on CI, however, the average that the box has gone for on the devil site is about $60, and the average for a 5 pack is $14, which is just about right. For a $3 cigar, it's not too bad, but don't over spend on it.

Overall, you guessed it, 7/7

I would not have a problem buying this again. it's not one of those smokes that really stands out, but it's a decent one to light up every once in a while. I don't smoke enough (4-5 a week) to buy a box, but I would not have a problem purchasing this one again in a smaller quantity. I'm more of a robusto man myself, and the average price for a robusto 5er is around $12.50, not too bad.

Nice review Eric! I've been wondering about these sticks. I also saw the prices on CI and got a little iffy about them. It's good to know they're cheaper, I'll have to give them a shot.

Re: Perdomo Lot 23

I really like these in the churchill size, one of my favorite "time waster" cigars. I'd like to try one in the belicoso size to see if the profiles are similar. These start out just a bit too mild, but end up in just the right place for me, so I don't know if a shorter size would end up the same or not. For 2-3 bucks a piece, these are juuuust right!

Re: Perdomo Lot 23

I have a feeling the Perdomo Overruns I just got from CI include seconds of these. They look to be around 7x50, and the only Perdomo sticks I have found that come in that size appear to be Lot 23 or Fresh Rolled. I bought a "large" pack (random size range) each of the rosado and habano wrappers (they look identical to me).

Are you serious? Every other Perdomo release is done in Small Medium and Large. 5x50 6x50 and 7x50. Sometimes they'll have a Torpedo of varying size.

I had one of these in early July. Very good review. I think you hit the nail on the head with this one.

Was this a Natural or Maduro? I like the Maduro's.

Thanks for the review. Very good.
