Nub Habano and Nub Cameroon

So, I recently acquired another one of these little babies to smoke so that I could deliver a more thorough and accurate review. I also smoked a Nub Cameroon, which was alright.

Brand:Oliva
Series: Nub by Sam Leccia
Series Line: Habano
Size: 4 X 60
Wrapper: Nicaraquan Habano
Binder:Nicaraguan
Filler:Nicaraguan

Drink: Water with ice
Location: Local Cigar Shop lounge
Method of Lighting: Alec Bradley Table top Torch burner w/ Top quality Vector fuel, all courtesy of the cigar shop.

Pre-light:

The cigar smells pretty good, kinda like coffee and pepper, draw was really nice and the cap cut nicely. There were no imperfections on the orangish reddish colored habano wrapper that I could see, had a very natural look to it with some nice veins and lot's of natural oils.

I would like to say a couple things about these Nub Cigars, one they seem to have this TERRIBLE tendency to burn excessively hot in the first third which sometimes causes bitterness. And this has been my experience, with 2 Nub Habano's and a Nub Cameroon.

1st Third:

Lot's of pepper and a ton of spiciness on the tongue, very in line with the first one I smoked, however this one got very bitter and much hotter then the other one. In fact, it was so bad, I almost stopped smoking it right there. I did like that the cigar put out TONS of smoke, half way into the first third the bitterness went away and the cigar stopped burning so hot which made it much easier to smoke.

Then, as we transitioned into the second third, everything went flat and all the bitterness and heat came back and went away constantly. This continued into the final third.

Final Third:

I dumped the Nub cigar into a Nub logo'd ashtray(very ironic), it was just nasty which disappointed me because the first one I had was pretty impressive.

Brand: Nub by Sam Leccia
Line: Nub Cameroon
Wrapper: Nicaraguan Cameroon
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Nicaraguan
Size: 460

This review is short, because I just plain didn't enjoy this thing.

Overall Opinion on Nub Cameroon:

The construction and everything was flawless, but the draw was hard and again, when lit, it had the same tendency to get hot and bitter in the first half of the 1st third. Overall, it was way to mellow for me, there was pratically no flavor to it that I could discern which was very disappointing.

Overall opinion on Nub Cigars:

Well, I thought I would like them, especially after the first Nub Habano I had which had issues I could of forgiven(and I did) because it was such a flavorful smoke with nice amounts of spice, pepper, and wood. Then, the second Habano I had was just...a disappointment to say the least, with it's harshness and constant heat issues. The cameroon I would just outright not give another chance, in fact I think I might just give up on Nub cigars and wait for Sam's Cain Straight Ligero cigars instead.

I MIGHT give the Nub Maduro a chance but that might be put on hold until someone gifts me one or when I can put aside some of the other purchases I would like to get out of the way first.

Too bad the Nub Cameroon was not to your liking. I had one this past weekend and really enjoyed it...as a matter of fact, if I had more room in my humi I would probably pick up a couple five packs. I found them to be really tasty.

Thanks for the reviews.

Re: Nub Habano and Nub Cameroon

I just had a Nub Cameroon last weekend, it was my first Nub and I had a completely different experience, I am new to cigar smoking and I though it was great tasting and flavorful. I will be trying more of these but I might hold off on the Habano untill my palete matures.

I found the Nub Habano 460 to be a very nice flavorful cigar. very one dimensional but at the same time great flavor. Ill try to pick up a 5 pack of the maduros in the future.

I've tried all the Nubs except the maduro. I've enjoyed them all and look forward to the maduro.

Re: Nub Habano and Nub Cameroon

I too, along with everyone else (except Duke), like all the Nubs... I am although not real crazy about the Connecitcut, but I really enjoy all the others, ecspecially the Cameroon & Maduro.

I also haven't experienced the excessive burn issues you've experienced... Maybe you might light it, & let it sit for a couple of minutes before you go to town on it??? Just a thought...

We all like different things, & have different tastes... That's why there's a whole humidor @ your B&M filled with hunreds of different kinds... Different strokes for different folks!!!

Re: Nub Habano and Nub Cameroon

I enjoyed the Nub Habano more than the Cameroon. Of course they had 8+ months of age on them in my humi, so I'm sure that helped out a little bit. I'd still like to try the Maduro as well!

Re: Nub Habano and Nub Cameroon

I tried the Nubs and out of all of them liked the Maduro the best. That being said it still wasn't doing much for me. OK, but better sticks out there. That's just my taste, YMMV as always.

Good review David

Hmmmmmm Quote gone bad

Sorry you didn't enjoy that cameroon. Sadly I tried the same and was greatly dissapointed as well. I was stocked to try it and I think I smoked about half of it and set it down. And the half I smoked was a struggle. If I get another I will make sure it has copius aging time but I doubt that I will buy another anytime soon.

Really liked the Nub Connecticut torpedo the other night. Did not like the Cameroon at all. Gonna dabble with singles in these for a bit before I buy boxes.
