Re: Punch Gran Cru
Thanks for the review. My first box purchase was a box of Gran Cru robustos. I have several left in my humi. I haven't smoked one in over a year and have since forgotten about them. I might just have to pull one out and give it a shot.

Review: Punch Grand Cru Robusto
Punch Grand Cru
Wrapper: Connecticut Shade (No. II - Ecuadoran Sumatra) Filler: Honduran, Nicaraguan, Dominican (Piloto Cubano) Binder: Connecticut Broadleaf County of Manufacture: Honduras Factory Name: Honduras American Tabaco S. A., Cofradia, Honduras ![]() Robusto (claro) Length: 5.25" Ring: 50 I have had 5 or so of these guys through the course of the year and have you say you can't go wrong with one. For the simple price of $5 a stick, you can expect something a with fantastic construction that will burn even all the way to your fingers. It will ash a light to medium grey and hold a nice pyramid burning below. The draw is nice (cut or punched). The fill is good, it kept me puffing right my average pace. The taste in this cigar is interesting. The initial third DEFINES the word medium-bodied cigar, other than that it's pretty much hard to measure. It's a good, smooth smoke. The second third of the cigar is a lot of the same, but you will notice a change to a spicy/semi-herbish experience. It's nothing too drastic and you will probably like it. The last third of this cigar builds a creamy note, making the smoke roll out of your mouth. The things I noticed with this cigar, is that it always takes me down to the fingers and lasts near 1 hour. I will say I would recommend a drink to compliment this cigar. I prefer a bourbon and diet coke. Bottom line on this cigar... $5, good draw, fill, appearance, smoke, ash, taste... = GOOD ( 4.5 / 5 ) |

Re: Punch Gran Cru
Thanks for the review. I had one of these guys and it was spicy from start to finish. It did mellow out near the middle of the smoke. It tasted good with the scotch I was sippin' down with it.

Re: Punch Gran Cru
Never had a Punch I didnt like, though the Puros and the Rare Carojo's are my tops. If it says "Punch" on the band you cant go wrong.

Re: Punch Gran Cru
I got a fiver of robusto Maduros a year ago on c-Bid the first one I had last summer was terrible.. Very harsh. I had one this past weekend and it was better but still a litttle harsh. They seem to be comming around but I shouldn't have to wait two years for a domestic to be good..

Re: Punch Gran Cru
Just finished one of these tonight; very smooth and light smoke even after the half way mark. It reminded me of an AF 858; so smooth, you may not realize your inhaling. It left no aftertaste during or after and was never harsh. It had a tight draw w/an ash that was good, but coned; wrapper looked very nice w/ a slightly oily feel, and nutty/grassy smell pre-light; first half of burn was incredibly light and creamy; second half was slightly (very slight) complex w/ a nutty/leathery/peppery taste that kept me guessing; smooth, but definitely tasty! Overall, this excellent smooth $5 smoke will occupy plenty of space in my humi!

Re: Punch Gran Cru
The Punch Gran Cru line used to be my "special" smokes. They have since been replaced by Davidoffs in my humi. However, when I want a nice smooth medium cigar that does not cost me half of my salary for the time I smoke it, the Punch Gran Cru is still the one I go for.

Re: Punch Gran Cru
Nice review. I started out really liking the Punch line and would always include some in my purchases. I guess it is my go to cigar line if I can not decide on what to purchase. The Punch Magnum Maduro is my favorite so far.
I must say though that the Pepin line is taking over as my favorite as I smoke more and more of them. |
