Jose Seijas Signature Robusto

Cigar: Jose Seijas Signature Robusto
Year: 200?
Cutter: Xikar
Lighter: Ronson Jet-Lite
Beverage: Coke Zero

I received this cigar from dj1340 (Don). He sent me a PM asking if I had ever tried them. When he found out I had not he generously offered to send me a couple.

Pre-cut: Smooth reddish-brown wrapper. No large veins and feels firm and heavy in the hand. Pre-light draw has hints of bread and a slight taste of fresh hay.

1st third: This cigar starts out with a taste of fresh cut hay with a little bit of a peppery spice thrown in. Getting a slight sweetness not unlike raisins. The nose exhale is smooth with just a hint of spice. The finish is long and the smoke is plentiful.

2nd third: Cigar is very smooth with hints of toast and a little peppery spice. The fresh hay taste has faded away and has been replaced by an almost sweet spice. The finish lasts until the next puff and is pleasantly sweet. The nose exhale offers a hint of spice and is very smooth.

Final third: The cigar started to get a little harsh at this point so I gave it a purge and it has returned to being a smooth easy cigar. The spice is all but gone now and I am left with a rich tobacco taste with the lingering sweetness. The finish is still long and pleasant. The last couple of nose exhales I did caused me to start sneezing so I am refraining from that.

Overall this cigar is a good solid smoke. There are enough flavor changes to keep you interested and the smoke is very dense and heavy. The hay with the peppery spice thrown in is one of my favorite flavor profiles. This cigar is med strength and full bodied.

Thanks don for the opportunity to try this excellent cigar!

How do you "purge" a cigar? I find that some of my cigars get harsh with an amonia taste on the final third. I usually give up and let it go out. This info will be very much appreciated. Thanks.

You just gently blow through the cigar. This will help purge the gases that are built up inside of it.

Also if you light your lighter in front of it while purging you can often times get a really cool light show.

Donnie,
Great review as always. You summed up my thoughts on this cigar. You even named a couple of flavors I experienced but couldn't put my finger on what they were. The majority of these I've smoked needed to be purged towards the end but always returned to a great smoke.
