Talking Tauaje Havana VI Almirantes

Cigar: Tauaje Havana VI
Size: Almirantes (7x47)
Cutter: Xikar
Country: Nicaragua Puro
Lighter: Wooden Matches
Beverage: Black Coffee
Price: $7-$9

One of my first cigars blended by DPG, don't know what to expect so I'm really excited to try this one. I've heard very good things about his blends.

Pre-light: This stick has a decent looking milk-chocolate colored wrapper. It appears to be constructed well, with a very nice triple cap that cut quite easily. The foot of the cigar is split open just a little bit, but I'm pretty sure it won't be a problem. Pre-light draw is firm, & aroma is very cedary.

1st third:
It lit easily & I immediately tasted the same cedar as pre-light. No problems from the split foot. VERY spicy from the beginning, reminds me of dark chocolate, cedar, leather & lots of pepper. When I exhale out the nose it burns quite a bit (in a good way). Unfortunately my camera battery just died, so I don't know how long til I can get the next picture. The draw is still just a little bit tight, but not too bad. The burn isn't perfect, but it so far it's self-correcting. The ash fell of at just over an inch. The camera is back up & running just in time for a quick picture!

2nd third: Still very spicy & peppery. That leather & cedar are still hanging on as well. Burn is still good, but not great. The draw is still firm, but has loosened up somewhat. It tried to go out on me at this point, but I didn't let it. One touch-up light later & I'm ready to go. The ash is very white & flaky, & once again fell off a little prematurely (probably because of my touch-up). There is a small split in the wrapper that could pose a problem in the near future.

Final third: Other flavors have mostly disappeared, with spicy pepper deliciousness left behind. It's still trying to go out on me, so it's requiring puffing a little more often than I'd like, still no bitterness from it though.

Finish: More creamy than spicy at the end, with the cedar & dark chocolate flavors returning. No harshness at all. No problems with the split in the wrapper either.

Overall, I'd highly recommend trying this cigar if you like strong, spicy cigars. I would not recommend it for the beginner, unless you want to be feeling a little green afterwards. In other words, make sure you're sitting down, because it's high in Vitamin-N! I'd put this cigar down as Med-Full bodied but Full Flavored. One of the most flavorfull cigars I've smoked in a while. It seems like many of the Full-Bodied cigars I smoke are not also Full-Flavored. In fact it's almost hard for me to describe how much I love the flavor of this cigar. Did I mention how great the flavor is?

I knocked the rating down from an A- because of the burn & draw.

Solid B+

P.S. if anyone has any recommendations of similar cigars....????

Re: Tauaje Havana VI Almirantes

I had my first Havana VI last week and really liked it. I was a bit worried I could get buzzed but I smoked it slowly and was rewarded with an awesome experience. Glad you liked it, man. I will have to keep my eyes open for some of these Churchills floating around.

Nice review Jeff. While I love the Tats, in general they are priced just beyond my fingertips to ever become a real regular.

If you like the Havana, try my personal favorite DPG, the Blue Label.

I will add both of those to my list. Thanks for the suggestions.
