Cohiba Extra Vigoroso:Trumpet:Sumatra Review

You may notice I been smoking strong and expensive lately. This is all due because of this coming week is a good week for me, Thursday the 10th is my birthday. So the Cohiba is next in line of my week of good smoking celebration. The Extra Vigoroso is one of Cohiba's darker shade wrappers line, a departure for their usual stuff, another theme I'm noticing this week is how I'm reviewing cigars makers progression from the usual vitolas they make. So if Davidoff claims to be Roll's Royce of cigars, where does Cohiba stand?

SPECS-
Size- Trumpet 6x60
Wrapper-Ecuador
Binder-Connecticut
Filler-Nicaraguan Ligero and Piloto Cubano
Price-$15.80
Cut-Guillotine
Smoke Time-1 hour

FIRST IMPRESSIONS-This Cohiba is really stunning. The brown wrapper is vein less and slightly dry, but it doesn't take away from the cigar's overall expression. The Trumpet is very well constructed but the foot is slightly loose. The wrapper has a slightly sweet coffee bean aroma to it and the foot is slightly spicy with a hint of straw. The cold taste produced a flawless draw with no particular taste, the wrapper had a slight floral taste and shows great promise.

FIRST THIRD-For a Cigar named Extra Vigoroso you expect an over-wellming spice punch, but surprisingly there's none of that. The first few puffs are super smooth and creamy with a good finish leaving behind a good woodsy taste. The first tastes are slightly floral and herbal, again very unexpected. The burn was flawless and the ash was a solid white and for $15 bucks it better be.

SECOND THIRD-The Second third brings along the biggest complexities in this stick. The woodsy tastes are still here but reside more in the background. A very deep and earthy taste of cedar takes the main stage with the spice following along with a nutmeg taste. There are also undertones of licorice here, but not that sharp sweetness you'd associate with the herb, more like that middle taste of licorice, that nice deep earth with the nasal mentholiness you get. There are plenty of flavors in this stick but to me these were the most recognizable. The ash is very strong and the smoke rich and smooth. So far the price is justified.

LAST THIRD-Things get deeper and more woodsy. The main flavor changes from cedar to more of a puffed rice that's slightly toasted and the finish is the same. I never got a taste of leather for such a dark smoke which is a plus, overall the stick is full of complex flavors that you won't understand in your first try. Like the little intricacies of espresso bean and the different levels of earth, The stick was well blended and no one flavor was more pronounced than the other.

LAST IMPRESSIONS- I like this stick, the price is just about right. For a dollar cheaper I can get a Ashton VSG Sorcerer that is also very good. But this stick is on a class of its own and I'd rather pay a dollar more for the mystery flavors I get in the Cohiba. This was a good relaxing, high priced experience. The price keeps it from being an everyday thing but it's good too have this Cigar on those days were you need a pick-me-up. If Davidoff is a Roll's Royce, This Cohiba is a private jet.

RATING-94
Buy it again? Yes
Recommend? Yes, this super-premium won't disappoint. Don't let the price scare you.

I'm a big fan of the XV 660. Partially because I had my first one in Deadwood, I love that town.
Nice review & happy birthday!
