Cubao No. 1

Bought this at a local B&M.

Nice construction, silky wrapper, great prelight aroma of rich, toasty tobacco. I have enjoyed other Pepin creations so I am looking forward to this.

First taste impression is spice! And more spice. The draw on this is excellent and I can get a ton of smoke out of it.

As I smoke on I notice the spice mellows a bit but I'm not really seeing any depth or development of flavor. Medium spice, some nice woodsy, toasty tobacco flavors. Not as robust in character as a DPG Blue or Black but recognizably in that same vein of flavor profiles.

Halfway through the smoke is quite creamy and loses a bit of its edge. I am having a hard time identifying any really distinct flavors. By the time I finish this 7 x 47 beast I am not disappointed as it was a well made, great drawing, enjoyable smoke. It was certainly full flavored but still seemed a bit one-dimensional...not a bad flavor but it was consistent throughout rather than having a lot of nuance. I will probably smoke Cubao again, although I think I will stick with my DPG Black when I am fiending for some Pepin flavor.

Nice informative review! I think I will try a single before pulling the trigger on a box.

I like the Cubao and find it very similar to the DPG Blue Label.

That would be a good review. Cubao vs. DPG Blue.
