Man O War

Here is my weekly review. This one is kinda scary for me. I have heard these things are strong.

Cigar- Man O War Double Corona (7x52)
Cutter- Mean Sardine
Lighter- Ronson JetLite
Drink-Diet Coke

Pre Light- This stick is HUGE. I rarely smoke one this large. It is a nice looking stick very heavy feeling. It smells of pure tobacco. A small hint of hay at the foot. Pre light draw feels just right, not a lot of dicernable flavor but a little bit of spice.

Initial light- The first flavor I pick up is toasty oak. You can tell it is full bodied. Draw is perfect with an average amount of smoke. There is no spice which suprises me.

1st third- The initial burn is a little uneven. Lots of oak with a little cocoa mixed. There is a little sweetness coming in with the oak, just enough to notice. The ash is a gorgeous white. I am picking up more of the sweetness now, kinda reminds me of honey. The oak is still there but it is becoming very toasty. Kinda reminds me of a bonfire. I lost the ash at around an inch. So for the cigar has been great. I am beginning to get a bit of spice on the back of the tongue. Just enough to be pleaseant. The finish is very woodsy and lingers for a few seconds after exhaling. The smoke is changing so much I hardly have time to type before it changes. I am not able to describe about half of them. It has become a little creamy. The oak is stilll the previlant flavor. It reminds me of the taste of the aftertaste of a good oak aged bourbon.

2nd third- The initial uneven burn is gone now. The flavor is beginning to change now. I am picking up a little cedar kinda reminds me of a walk in humidor. There is a little vanilla flavor on the finish. A lot of pure tobaco coming through. The cigar is getting a little spicier. It may sound silly but it is a different spice than I have experienced, not the normal black pepper. Up till now I would have to say it has been more medium bodied but I am beginning to feel the lump in my throat. Getting a few hints of leather on occassion. The finish has a bitter cocoa note that disappears almost instantly. The pepper is coming a little harder now but still is very different than the usaul spice I get. The lump in my throat has gotten bigger. I am about halfway through this stick and so far very impressed. As I approach the final third the nicotine buzz is kicking my a$$. I am going to get the spoon full of sugar and see if I can finish.

Final Third- The sugar along with a glass of ice water seem to help the buzz. The cigar has changed profiles again. It now has a sweet but pure tobacco flavor. The finish is of cedar and lingers till the next puff. This thing is GREAT. The cigar has not even tried to burn hot no matter how fast I puff. With around two inches left this bab boy is going strong. The maduro wrapper is really shining through now with lots of typical sweetness. There is a slight hint of coffee but just for a moment.

The Final Stretch- There is no final stretch tonight. With around an inch left, I had to lay er down. The nicotine buzz has taken over the enjoyment of the cigar.

Overall- All I can say is freakin WOW. This cigar is awesome. It has complexity like I have never experienced before. The only negative I can give it is the strength. It was a little strong for me in this size. I will revisit this cigar again, but probably in a Robusto or Corona size.

as always let me know what you think.

Sounds fantastic. I have a couple MOWs in this size from a sampler (and more of the torpedos and toros). Can't wait to try it. Thanks for a great review!

Re: Man O War

Nice review, I have smoked two of these and pitched them halfway both times. Not for me just yet, too acrid but maybe with some age the rest of them I have will be more enjoyable

Re: Man O War

This has become my cigar of choice as of late. It is just over medium in strength, and is downright tasty. Thanks for the review. It describes this stick.

Re: Man O War

Good review, glad you sucked it up and smoked it. You sounded worried last night.

That is definetly a big size for such a strong cigar.

Re: Man O War

I liked the 1st half of this cigar very much but it turns harsh for me in the last half. I've smoked a few with the same results. I have a couple more that have been resting for over 6 months. I'll give it another 6 and try again.

I was a little on the cautious side with this thing, it wasn't as bad as I expeceted. If it was a Robusto or Toro it would have been nothing more than a great smoke. The size was the big factor in it. I rarely smoke anything bigger that a toro and when I do it is usually a milder cigar. But this thing was a gift from a good friend (you know who you are) who wanted to see me get a kick in the arse. Hope you enjoyed it my friend.
