Cuba Aliados Miami Edition
Cuba Aliados Miami Edition
Frank from Reyes Family Cigars sent me this one and gave me the low-down on its history. The Miami edition of the Reyes Family’s Cuba Aliados line is a limited edition cigar that was released earlier this year. The master blender Rolando Reyes Sr. and his grandson Carlos Diez created this blend to be complex and to appeal to more comtemporary tastes. Frank told me that the idea was to roll these in Miami using only Cuban rollers. Currently there are just 3 rollers making this cigar, rolling only 100 apiece per day. The Miami Edition has a Nicaraguan Cuban-seed Habano wrapper, Dominican Binder, and Nicaraguan fillers. Onto the review- ![]() Stats: L/RG- 6x53 Size- Toro Viejo Price- ??? Smoke Date- 9/22/09 Packaging- Cellophane w/ a Cedar wrap Overall Appearance/Presentation: 19/20 This cigar looks great. Its got a double band, the top band being the traditional Cuba Aliados w/ a red background and some gold accents and the bottom band is white, reading made in MIAMI florida. Cap was well assembled and there were some very slight veins throughout the wrapper but in general it looked very smooth. The habano wrapper has a great oily look to it and a nice chestnut brown coloration. Basically, this thing begs to be smoked. Lighting and Burning: 13/15 Cut went well w/ my xikar xi2, and it lit up easily and evenly. The burn was even and every time it started to go uneven it promptly corrected itself. It burnt at a nice solid pace, not too fast or too slow and I never had to worry about it going out. There was plenty of smoke and the resting smoke had a very nice aroma. The ash was gray and pretty solid falling off every inch or so. Construction: 28/30 This cigar was very well made and you could just tell that the utmost care went into rolling it. The wrapper was well assembled with no tears or imperfections and the cigar had a nice solid feel. It was even with no soft or hard spots and had a nice spongy feel to it. The draw was, ideal for me with just the right amount of tug. The cigar stayed very well intact from the time I lit it to the last puff and the draw was consitent. Taste: 31/35 The Pre-Lit draw was very sweet, which I wasn’t expecting from a cigar with a habano wrapper. It had a sweet almost raisin-esque flavor on the pre-lit that I was very impressed by and hoped would show up in the smoke. The flavor started right out with some very smooth spice that faded into that sweet raisiny aftertaste. The aftertaste was phenomenal and the cigar had that good leathery habano taste throughout. At about 2’’ the flavors changed into a dry toasty flavor followed by the same aftertaste. The cigar had a smooth almost creamy quality to it which I believe to be a result of a perfect balance between spice and sweetness. At 3’’ I noticed some nice nutty flavors appearing but only for about ½ inch before fading back into that initial leathery spicy taste. ![]() It finished out the way it started with a smooth spice on the tongue and a sweet deep aftertaste. I’m usually not a fan of spice in cigars but this was subtle and very pleasant. ![]() Overview: Diez and Reyes Sr. are really onto something with this cigar. The construction was flawless and the flavors were dynamic and just generally very good. I can’t say enough about the sweet and deep aftertaste that was constant in the smoke, and the perfect balance of flavors that was apparent throughout. It smoked right around 2 hours and was full bodied for sure. I couldn’t find much regarding the price point on these, considering that they are a limited release, but in my opinion they could easily sell anywhere from $8-$12 and I would happily pay as much. If you can get your hands on one of these I strongly recommend you do so and I guarantee you won’t be disappointed. Final Score : 91/100 ![]()

Re: Cuba Aliados Miami Edition
Frank Santos also sent me some earlier this year, I did a review (no pics) and it blew my socks off. Was a really good smoke. I did my best to spread the news because Cuba Aliados doesn't get much love on the forums and Frank is a great guy!
They also sell them at Serious Cigars Cuba Aliados Cigars from SeriousCigars.com Edition

Re: Cuba Aliados Miami Edition
I used to smoke the Cuba Aliados Maduros back in the 90's but then they disappeared for awhile. I never went back to them when they showed up at the B&M's again. I'll have to check the Miami's out. Nice review.
