Long review of perdomo en vidro-el rosario
Hello to all:
And please remember, I am new to rating cigars, so I have my own way of going about it. I would add much more since I am verbose and get into minute details, but I don’t want to offend the paragraph police on this forum. Nice cool day, dropped the wife off at school, and headed to the ocean with my easy chair and my k9, and some water in my canteen and a box of lu petit ecolier. For those of you who know these, you know what I am talking about. LOL It was the K9s 14th birthday, so I took him to breakfast. Scrambled eggs and sausage, and an English muffin with cream cheese. It’s his yearly birthday meal from me. The wife takes him to burger king on Sunday. We finished our meal and we set up on the beach. I tethered the k9 to my belt as he likes to wander, when he sees other dogs. I love the beach this time of you. Just a few people, and they are usually nature lovers and unemployed women trying to get some more tan. Everyone’s usually pretty friendly but minds there own business. I had a 3 cd collection of Motown on my ipod, plus the Tommy Album to ramp it up a bit if needed. So I had this Perdomo En Vidro in el rosario size(basically a Churchill). I purchased them on auction at jr about two months ago, because I read the few reviews available and everyone was raving about them. I was intrigued by the common theme of holiday baking aromas. Just up my alley. Cool day at the beach, sun behind clouds and very little if any wind. This cigar has been resting for the last two months at about 63rh or there abouts. I put one in my cigar caddy before leaving. RH 68. I took it out and observed it. It felt very heavy for its size, and while pliable, felt stuffed with tobacco. No skimping on this cigar. I looked over the wrapper and it’s supposed to be a c.s. I don’t know one from the other, but it was very smooth and oily to the touch. However, there were a few large veins in various places, but they were smoothed down, so if you weren’t watching you might not notice from feel. I took a double guillotine cutter and took a snip. I took out a triple torch to toast the foot. Took a long time, to grab fire, but didn’t burn all around very well. It took a second toasting, as well as some puffing with the flame to foot to get it going. I immediately noticed that the draw was tight to my taste, and very little smoke drawing out the head. Not what I like. Once going I started tasting for flavor. It was a nice cool smoke, and very mild. A little spice hitting the sides at the back of my tongue. Nothing special. Another half inch down, the spice intensified, and the draw was not improving. I notice the wrapper(as has been reported elsewhere) was not burning even, but I soldiered on. After about 2 inches down, the heavy spice dissipated, and I started getting some cream taste, but not enjoying the draw. I then thought that I had a cheap ass bullet punch on my keychain and I should give it a go. Since the head was a tiny bit moist, it did not seem to want to grab a plug out, but I reamed it good anyway. Probably the bullets problem. At first puffs, it did seem to improve, but not by much. I purged it a few times, and no difference. Still not a lot of smoke drawing out. Plus half way down, I twice had to apply flame as wrapper was not burning even, and too stiff to pop with finger. A third down now, and almost forty minutes have elapsed. If it wasn’t for review I would have chucked it. Glad I didn’t. All of a sudden I started tasting and smelling like leaves on fire(I like that smell, and something else. I cant describe it, other then if you had a rum and coke in a glass with ice, and forgot about it for two days, and then took a sip of the watered down, flat, drink, that’s what I was tasting. But it didn’t last long. About half way down (about an hour) and the cigar taste turned to menthol. Not cedar which is close, but more menthol, like cigarette filter menthol. I don’t smoke, but I have smelled cigarettes. And like I said before, wrapper was burning eneven. That continued till a third left, and I put it out. Over an hour and a half had gone by. I put it out and decided to take it apart because of its density. It was packed so tight with tobacco. A lot of wrapper, a thick dense binder, and I was amazed at the tobacco. The amount of leaves that came out. It almost looked like a whole bunch of maple leaves intact. I take apart the cigars a lot to investigate, and never seen this many leaves in such a small area. Would I smoke one again. Maybe if they were in a corona or small size. But I don’t like to fight with my cigars. I definitely wouldn’t purchase any more. (10 for 40 dollars at auction) But I have smoked a lot worse, and I think if the draw was better, more flavor may have gotten though. Sorry for the long winded review. That’s the way I roll. MR SMITTY who is the expert on these matters should be chiming in today. Much regards Jerry |
