Thumbs up Puros Indios Viejo Review

Guys, sit back, relax, and spend some time with an old friend...

Cigar: Puros Indios Viejo

Size: ?? Robusto? Toro? Honestly didn't pay attention to this part, but I think it may have been a roby due to the burn-time. Or maybe that was just my enthusiastic puffing! =D

Dedication: Thank you John (Teoulennon) (I hope I'm spelling your username right lol) for this incredible stick.

Inspection and pre-light: A very smooth, flawless Connecticut(?) wrapper. I mangled the cap just a tad, but that was user-error (still using my 5.00 dbl guillotine). Pre-draw was perfect, nice and smooth (like breathing through a sweatshirt LOL). Tasted of light, crisp tobacco and a little light, pleasant barn-yard.

Toast and first 1/3: Singed the foot a little more than expected, was using my MAP torch lol. Did not make a difference, and quickly got the foot in a perfectly even ember. Immediately the texture and flavor of this smoke was a medium-bodied cream. Working down towards the end of the first third, the body and flavor got more intense into what I'd like to call a cream-splosion. (get your minds out of the gutters, boys!)

Second Third: Flavor picked up a little nuttiness, almost a vanilla-almond flavor with the tobacco in the background. Left a very chewy, savory feeling in the mouth. I was very much enjoying this as I was washing my car. The scent of the cherry car wash and the wonderfully light, creamy aroma reminded me of a soda-cream I had at a local place called The Pop Shop. Kinda unique and enjoyable!

Final Third: Started this third off with a purge, as my over-zealous puffing had turned the flavor just a little more bitey than I had liked, but the purge worked, much to my appeasement. The creaminess was still there, but had developed into much more of an earthy-nutty flavor and left my mouth with a pleasant light oil-like coating. Down towards the last inch and a half, the nub kicked in and I am already dizzy from no-sleep night before, so it was time to lay this stogie to rest.

Final Thoughts: This cigar was a treat, indeed. I will eventually be buying myself more of these little morsels, but for now "hasta la vista mi viejito..." (Until we meet again, my dear old friend).

Excellent smoke. I give this a Must Have Smoke rating.

Cheers!
Isaac

Re: Puros Indios Viejo Review

I have been buying these up almost every week on CBID as this is a real quality cigar. With a few months on these they get better and better. Nice review on a cigar I really enjoy.

Nice review, I'm glad you enjoyed it Isaac! Btw I believe it's a Sumatra wrapper (one of my favs)! It also had about 3 months rest in the humi. Looking forward to doing a review of the stick you sent me!

So YOU sre the culprit who bids against me on these??? lol

But I am the same way; These are a great inexpensive stick that I always try to grab a 5er on cbid. I got a 6pk of some that have been "special aged" torpedos.

Nice review Isaac

Ah, that explains it! I think I'm becoming a fan of the Sumatra; Exiles are (Ecuadorian?) Sumatra lol. I guess 2 great minds think alike! Only thing is, now I'm torn between these and some Montecristos for my next purchase! Oh I went there!
Thanks again guys, ya'll rock.

LOL, yes, that would be me. Those 6pk torpedos are very good as well. if you see me on CBID ( GV Dallas,Ga.) don't bid against me or what we could do is go in halfsies ( sorry, I kept this word from kindergarten and it still works for me) I love these cigars along with the other Reyes cigars as well.

Sounds like a plan to me! Try and catch a box when I get my Vino right and we can go halfsies for sure!

I had been wondering who GV was and didn't put two & two together. At least to get 'four' anyways.

But...... 'halfsies'? Halfsies? Had to get my oldest son in here to interpret for me!

Sorry, couldn't resist!

I've been smoking these everyday as the ones I bought in the last couple of months are "ripe" now and smoke great. Let me know when you are ready to go on a bidding run as I will be in short supply in about another couple of weeks at the rate I'm smoking them.

Re: Puros Indios Viejo Review

Shit I just blew like 50 bucks making my rounds at the B&M's today... otherwise I'd be down for a Puro 3-way! ahahaha jk! but not about my wallet being 50 bucks lighter... =\

Just smoked a Fuente 8-5-8 and I actually think that the P.I. Viejo is similar in profile, minus the Cameroon flavorings of the Fuente. I might be insane saying that though.
I think maybe the Fuente had a bit more of a woody/cedar taste than the Viejo, but IMO it's a much cheaper, valid substitute...

Any thoughts?
