Camacho Diploma Maduro

Well this is my first casualty cigar I had. It is a shame too becuase I was loving the taste of this cigar. When I first started to smoke it I was getting nuts and just tasted superb! But the draw was so light I was puffing way too much I was coughing so much becuase i did not realize I had so much smoke in my mouth.

Here is what happened when i first cut it, the head of the cigar cracked, I don't know if I cut too far in off the cap and that is why it cracked? Or it had bad construction? Or where I bought it from was not stored properly?

So I thought ok no big deal just a little crack and started to smoke, well I got through maybe a third and the entire wrapper started to unravel and came off, so I kept trying to smoke it, but then the cigar started to fall apart on me, no matter how much I tried to keep smoking it.

Normally if it did not taste that great I would threw it away but I spent $13 and change on it...oh well I tired my best but it eventually just started to keep falling apart and low and behold it was on the floor.

I really enjoyed what I smoke do you think it was my error on the cut? Should I try another? Next time should I store it for a while before smoking it?

I had a Camacho Diploma from a platinum sampler I ordered. I let it rest in my humi for a couple weeks and had NO problems at all with it. Maybe it just needed to be rested to the right humidity. Perhaps it was stored improperly before you bought it. I'd definitly give this one another chance.

It could have been the cut. It could have been any number of things really. I have this problem with Cohiba's. I leave the band on until I have to take it off, sometimes it helps.

This was possibly your problem, if it was from a B&M they often keep their cigars over-humidified, a little rest will do wonders.
It could also be the cutter, what type are you using? Is it sharp?

I really like the Diplomas, I'd give them another shot.

i probably need a better cutter though I have been using it since I got into cigars and it has worked well

The only problem with cheap cutters is they get dull fairly quickly.

is there a way to test if mine is dull without putting my finger in it?

maybe I should just look into getting the Palio seems to be the best cutter overall from what I am reading

I think the best way is if it makes a clean cut it's sharp, if not it isn't.

I've heard good things about the palio, I love my Xi2 as well.

Personal Preference.

see that the thing when i cut the Camacho it cut all the way through cleanly, it just the head of the cigar cracked as i did the cut

I guess on my next cigar i will pay attention and see how it cuts.

either way i will look into getting a better cutter soon just to rule it out and eventually i will need a better one I imagine

Thanks
