First Review: CAO MX2 Robusto (lots of pics)
This is my first review, and first smoke from my haul from Atlantic Cigars.
I felt like trying out a full bodied smoke, and decided to go with this one. The wrapper was very appealing to the eye, full of tiny goosebumps, and pretty oily. I did a V cut by hand with a replacement razor blade from my travel straight razor kit. With my usual cigars, I would make a right angle cut (one straight cut one angled cut) but I went with a normal V cut since I've never smoked this one before. I used my Ronson to light it, and I was drinking and rinsing with water. It's very strong compared to what I normally smoke, which prevented me from exhaling through my nose because it burned quite a bit. I thought it was a pretty good smoke. A little too complex for my beginners pallet. I mostly tasted pepper/spice throughout the cigar, with hints of wood here and there, but there was more going on that I couldn't quite put my finger on. The draw was a little loose, and the smoke was thin at the beginning, but got better and thicker the more I smoked. At about half way through it started to smoke great with a perfect draw and thick, creamy clouds. Any thicker and I could chew them. I had some problems with the burning, but I think I'll put the blame on the ash being too big and the occasional strong breeze. Once I started to ash it more it burned much better. I don't know if I would buy this one. At least not until I refine my pallet more, and develop a better tolerance for full bodied smokes. I think not being able to exhale out my nose prevented me from experiencing what this cigar can offer. It smelled amazing though! My neighbor was walking his dog and came over to get a better whiff and loved the smell. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks for reading, and enjoy the pics. |

Re: First Review: CAO MX2 Robusto (lots of pics)
Good review!
I am a newb for sure, but I really enjoyed this one (had one last Friday). I actually think I liked it a little more than the Brazillia. I have one more of each that I need to smoke to really get a good idea though. I had mine with a glass of Macallan 18 year old. It was a pretty crisp evening outside, nice and cool but not uncomfortable. I did have a few problems keeping it going though. Not sure if I am to blame it on the weather or not. I don't think I was inattentive. I definitely enjoyed it and would buy it again for sure. |

Re: First Review: CAO MX2 Robusto (lots of pics)
Thanks guys!
One thing I forgot to mention was the cigar band. I didn't really think about how it should be removed until I got there. It's kind of tricky if you want it to come off clean. I couldn't get it off without tearing off some of the black laminate from the inside tags. |

I keep a few of these around in the box--great smoke. The flavors I get off of it are a "hard" coca taste reminisant of bakers chocolate or the really heavy 92% coca. You can usually taste a nice nutty flavor in the first 1/3. It expands into a hints of leather (reminds me of a saddle shop) and smokey wood. The coca aroma sticks around with it the entire length.
You did a good review. Try one again in about six months and see how it differs from your first. |

Re: First Review: CAO MX2 Robusto (lots of pics)
Thanks!
piperdown. I think it was a bad choice to smoke this one with my lack of all around experience. With the inability to exhale through my nose, because of the strength, I think I missed out on a lot of this cigar. The cold weather rushing in isn't gonna help me "develop" either. Damn Canada! ![]() |
