Puros Indios Special Aged

Here is this weeks review. As always let me know what you think.

Cigar- Puros Indios Special Aged (Colorado Wrapper 6x54)
Cutter- Stainless Steel Double Blade
Lighter- Ronson Jet Lite
Drink- Coke Zero

Pre Light- The cigar is massive. The wrapper is a bit rough, but the construction seems top notch. The prelight smell is of pure tobacco, with just a hint of spice. The draw is a little on the loose side

Initial Light- Due to the size of this thing it takes forever to light. After I finally got it up and going, the first couple draws are very bitter. There is a bit of sweet tobacco on the finish

1st Third- The draw is very loose on this stick, especially for a torpedo. The bitterness has gone away now but there is not a lot of flavor to speak of. About an inch in and the cigar is beginning to get a lil better. There is just a bit of black pepper spice on the back of the throat and a lot of sweetness on the exhale. About an inch in and the stick is turning toward the enjoyable side. It has developed a bit of leathery, earthiness to it. The spice is still there. Heading into the second third the ash is still holding strong.

2nd Third- The stick is much milder than i expected. The ash drops off at about 2 inches. I would love to type a bunch of stuff, but as of right now it is about the same as it was in the firs third. Don't get me wrong the flavors are enjoyable, just very one dimensional. I will say the burn is very straight, probably the best burn I have ever seen.

Final Third- As I begin the final third the cigar finally begins to change. There is a lot of bitter sweet flavors in the smoke. Can't really pick up any dinstinct flavors ( may be my under devoped palet). But bitter sweet def describes it. The nose exhales picks up a good amount of leather, with the sweetness totally gone now. The spice is there again, with a very dry smoke flavor. I bragged about the burn too quick, I had to fix it with about an inch and a half left.

Final Stretch- The cigar continues to be leathery, but there is a hint of cedar on the exhale. The cigar didnt change much from this point on. But I have to add that I did nub it.

Overall- The cigar was ok. I was expecting more from the cigar. There was not a lot of complexity, and the draw was very loose. However I did pick em up for $11 for six so not a bad stick for the price.

Let's hear your thoughts.

Ouch, sounds a little expensive for that experience. Great review though!

Doesn't sound too bad for less than $2 / stick

Re: Puros Indios Special Aged

Alrighty T-W, I smoked mine 2 nights ago. I'll agree with you on your review. It was milder than I think the regular Viejo was; maybe they let it sit TOO long? I think it could have been a little fuller-bodied, but that's probably because I've been on a full-bodied kick lately. It was a good smoke for doing homework to, but I think I like the Viejo more. I ain't complaining though, it was a free smoke thanks to you, T-Dub! And an enjoyable one at that!

Have not tried this one yet but have had several from the line, none of which I particularly liked. They all taste kind of rough to me. All strength and no body or flavor.

Re: Puros Indios Special Aged

This cigar definitely has its own flavor, no doubt about it. The zest/"spice" of it is truly distinctive and I enjoyed that. I also had a to nod in agreement when you mentioned the black pepper. It wasn't ovelry bad or strong, but present. I agree that the sheer size of this thing is a drawback, it takes away from the experience IMHO. Good review!

Re: Puros Indios Special Aged

These are very good cigars and not to threadjack I got a special email today from Cigar.com where you can buy any size Puros Indios bundle of 20 ( maduro or natural ) until Sunday for $24.95 and then do a search for the free shipping. You aren't going to find this deal around anytime soon for this good cigar.

I believe it's been said by some of the Puros Indios fans out there that at least the Viejo is much better with some time on it. Gary?

From the time it takes to get them out of the wrapper and stick one in my mouth,,,absofrigginlutely! Yes, with some age on the Viejos they turn into a very good cigar but at this price you can afford to belch out some smoke while the others age.

Ugggghhhh ahahaha I remember what it felt like the few times I've ever actually swallowed smoke... I'll give you a hint... I barfed! hahaha!

I wonder what it is about these smokes that makes them so damn good? Must be the crack they put in 'em...

Gaaaaah!!! My brain tells me "no" but my mouse-finger says "yes!" What's the going rate of a bundle on c-bid anyway? I see the QB is 30, but what do you usually get em for?
