Don Pepin Garcia Blue Label Generoso Review

Jose Garcia, otherwise known as Don Pepin, is the man behind some of the industry’s hottest cigars. Don Pepin Garcia Cuban Classic, Tatuaje, and 5 Vegas...to name a few. Don Pepin Garcia Blue, the blend bearing his name, is another gem from his Miami-based El Rey de Los Habanos factory.

To create the Blue label, a blend of 100% Nicaraguan tobacco is utilized. All Cuban-seed, this hearty mixture is made complete with a dark Nicaraguan Corojo wrapper. The smoke is full-bodied and full-flavored, boasting a rich, spicy bouquet of flavor with an assortment of earthy nuances. Eventful from start to finish and ultimately satisfying, Don Pepin Garcia Blue is a delicious, well-balanced cigar.
Size = 6x50
Wrapper = Nicaraguan Corojo

I think there has been a change to these cigars. The wrapper has become a bit more rustic looking. It is a dark marbelized brown color with an oily sheen. Triple cap and nice band, although I prefer the original.

The roll is a bit loose, almost underfilled. There is a barnyard prelight scent. Initial draw provides an abundance of woody, toasty notes with underlying spice. Not as spicy as the Black. Draw and smoke volume are very good. These seem more woody than before. Aroma is very good, spice and nutmeg.

There is a loss of complexity with these samples. The aroma which use to be one of this cigar’s strongest points, isn’t the same. Its not as complex or enticing.

Burn is good and produces a solid medium gray ash. I feel that the cedar notes I remember are no longer there and the cigar lost some complexity.

Its still good but I think I got a bad box. They just aren't what I remember them to be.

I agree with your review except for the spice comment. I find the blue far more spicy then the black.

Same here, I find the Blue to be much more powerful thank the black.

Is the whole box the same profile or was it just the one cigar? The blue generoso is great smoke. I have 2+ boxes with the old style of band so I'm wondering how much they have grown and changed in the past 2 years. One box is stamped 2007!

I've also noticed the difference.

I've smoked 4 or 5 so far and they are all the same. They aren't bad, but they aren't as good as the older ones. Especially in the aroma department and complexity.
