Review: Rocky Patel - Signature Series (Toro)

Ok, I know I have been raving on and on about the Signature Series to everyone who requests recommendations for a mild cigar that still packs a flavorful punch. I feel its only appropriate I write a review on my smoke last night.

A few other positive reviews have also recently been written, in both the Toro and Lancero sizes, and I suggest people check those out as well. I've only tried the Toro size, so I'll stick to that.

First, pricing... you can find a box of these almost every other week on Devil's Site for the $40/range, sometimes even lower. A $2 to $3 per stick smoke... it shines every time. Even if you go through other retailers, rarely are you going to be paying over $50/box, so its a very affordable smoke.

Onto construction... this is a Rocky Patel. That alone should be enough information. You know its going to be QUALITY every time, without fail. I've now smoked about 15 of these in the last year, and not once have I had a complaint about construction quality. The Toro size to me is amongst the most solid due to the good length vs ring size proportions.

The burn on these is even every time. I once even tried to PURPOSEFULLY light one edge of the cigar moreso than another, and within a short while, it self-corrected quite nicely. (Dont ask why I tried, I dont have an answer).

The draw... always light and smooth, very consistent throughout the whole smoke.

And onto the flavor... smooth earthyness is what I call it. Subtle, cool, just very enjoyable. I also get hints of leather, very clean. Towards the end, some notes of cedar were coming through. It generates a good amount of smoke.

Normally I enjoy my smokes with some good Scotch. This time around, I paired it with some Pampero Rum with a splash of Coke, TRULY delicious combination. I highly, highly recommend.

To me, this is a great cigar for a wide range of people-

1) People who are just starting out down the slippery slope, and dont yet have the taste for a "bold, heavy" cigar. Its a great way to ease yourself into smoking cigars.

2) Its a light cigar, but its full of flavor. Not extremely complex, but still, for a milder smoke, its among the best I've come across.

3) The price... at under $3/stick, it can be a 'regular' smoke. Sure you might want something fancy for a special event, but if you just want to sit back and relax, its a great choice.

Overall, I give it a 9 out of 10. The only reason I dock a point is the fact that I typically enjoy medium-full cigars more... but this is my top mild smoke.

I can't wait to try this cigar you bombed me with! I enjoy a RP every now and then.

What kind of scotch do you like to pair with your smokes? All I have right now is some JW Red & Black, and some Dimplepinch. Hmm...

Overall a nice review. I really enjoy the toro size of most smokes, so I'm sure I'll enjoy this one as well!

Re: Review: Rocky Patel - Signature Series (Toro)

I love Scotch, and I have a pretty wide range.... from $35 15 year Glenfiddich up to $250 bottles. among my favorite scotches-

1991 Glenrothes (around $65/bottle)
1985 Glenrothes ($130 a bottle)
Oban 14, aorund $70/bottle
Balvenie 15 ... $60/bottle

Macallan's are all good, but they are typically overpriced, same with Johnnie... these are the 2 best known brands, and so they charge a premium

I also love Lagavulin and Laphroaig, these are much 'smokier' and I dont smoke them with cigars unless its a heavy cigar or they just overpower the cigar.

Lots others to choose from lol. Ill have to post a pic of my liquor cabinet

I think the RP Signature Series is a fantastic underappreciated line. Smooth, creamy, nuanced ... the perfect morning smoke, and great anytime you want something a little lighter. Not sure why they don't get more love. They come in toro and lancero, I've got a box of each in the Edgestar

Thanks for the great review!! I haven't had one of these yet but have been keeping an eye on them for a while. I will definitely make a point to be on the look out for some.
